Saline Area Blood Bank hosts a Thursday drive at the Intermediate School from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A full team of registrars nurses and canteen volunteers will assist. Mrs Mamaron, a longtime helper and donor, is recovering from a recent hospital stay and will not attend.
Miss Jane Campbell daughter of Mr and Mrs Don C Campbell will be among 92 students to receive master’s degrees at Western Michigan University midyear commencement exercises Saturday.
The Saline Community Hospital board will hold its annual meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday January 28 at Saline High School.
James E. Newsome is named to a new Hoover Ball and Bearing Co. post as director of special services in Ann Arbor. He will coordinate industrial engineering and industrial relations across Hoover’s 13 divisions, bringing 17 years of Johnson and Johnson leadership and prior roles at Continental Can and U S Steel. Newsome has led professional associations including the Society for Advancement of Management and the American Management Association.
A Goodwill Industries truck will visit Saline on Tuesday January 21 for pickups. Call 429 9828 to arrange service.
The Saline Reporter introduces newcomer families weekly, starting with Mr and Mrs Bruce Schmidt who wed December 28 and reside at 10205 Saline Milan Rd. Schmidt roots trace to Pennsylvania and Tecumseh. The feature aims to knit Saline residents to new arrivals and vice versa, page six.
The 1964 New March of Dimes benefit card party hosted by chapter 311 OES will be at 8 p.m. Saturday January 25 at the Masonic Hall. Public welcome with prizes and refreshments. High score this week was Mrs James Carman 3680 in a benefit bridge series.
The Doug Elfrings and Herm Radloffs with the El-Rad Drive-In crew announce a Grand Opening this Sunday in Saline. The owners, active Jaycees, remodeled last month after acquiring Dee Jay's Drive-In. Free coffee all day and a ham dinner from noon to 8 p.m. invite the community.
Farrell Beach of 404 N Harris Sr is elected to a fourth term as financial secretary of the Washtenaw County Council AFL C IO. The council includes between 5000 and 10000 members and encompasses most large locals in the county.
Saline Community Fair is non profit and funds received support local groups. The 1963 Fair distributed 1952.84 to Jaycees Kiwanis Future Farmers of America OES American Legion and Saline Recreation Commission for services and operations. Premiums totaled over 3000 for youngsters.
Allan Grossman has been appointed by the Saline Chamber of Commerce as the organization's representative on the Community College Executive Committee. The county wide district would fund a full program from nursing to engineering with a capital outlay of 6.6 million and state and federal aid possible. The election date is to be announced.
Saline residents continue to buy cigarettes despite a government report linking smoking to cancer. Clerks report no drop in sales at Cor ner Drug Store Estes Rexall Pharmacy Schmid's Market Hulls Grocery Walker's Bakery El-Rad's Drive In and other outlets. Customers joke about quitting but mostly persist in smoking.
Miss Esther Landwehr hosted a Saline Woman's Club session with an education department program. Mrs. Charles Kern gave the devotional on community life. The group voted to support the March of Dimes and remain in the Volunteer Service Council of Ypsilanti State Hospital.
Saline High School Band performs Saturday at Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus as part of the Midwest Music Conference. Saline joins Grand Haven and Holland Christian in a 1 p.m. Saline set with 800 to 1,000 teachers expected for the event.
The South Bridgewater Study Club will hold a luncheon meeting at 12 30 p m Friday January 17 at the home of Mrs Edgar Randall.
Nearly 400 representatives from sponsoring organizations met in Tecumseh and unanimously approved the Raisin River Improvement Project. The next step is a February 11 Soil Conservation Service review in Lansing before state and federal approvals. The plan spans the Raisin River watershed over 700 000 acres, aiming to reduce floods and restore wildlife.
The Washtenaw County Federation of Women’s Clubs hosts a mid winter meeting Monday at the Ladies Literary Clubhouse in Ypsilanti with speaker Mrs. Rachel Andresen executive director of the Washtenaw County Council of Churches and Youth for Understanding program director. She will discuss youth exchange work and world peace experiences, introduce students from the area and a Montevideo Uruguay performing group. Tea will follow. registration begins at 1 p.m. Members of Saline Women’s Club and related groups are invited.
This year's plates will be sold in Saline on January 18 and January 25 from 1 30 to 4 p m at Elmer Steele and Sons Dodge on W Michigan Ave.
Members of the Saline Child Study Club meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday January 21 at 7130 Platt Rd the home of Mrs Edward Makiel ski. Guest speakers are George Bryan M D and Carl O'Brien of the Academy of Certified Social Workers speaking on Case Studies of Emotional Disorders with hostesses Mrs Willard Hertler and Mrs William Lawrence.
Mayor and Mrs. Jackson T Bennett travel to Winchester Virginia to visit his mother in hospital and expect to return Wednesday. Walter Armbruster hospitalized at St Joseph Hospital in room 6003 and may receive visitors. The Feldkamp family enjoyed a two week Florida vacation with relatives in Zephyrhills and Cape Kennedy with tours to Key West and Miami Beach. Weather was pleasant though cooler than expected. Renee Beauchamp and Robert Hazen underwent tonsillectomies at Saline Community Hospital. The Robison brothers had tonsils removed at Saline hospital. Roscoe Cammet recovering from surgery at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in room 4024. Hubert Beach remains hospitalized after a broken pelvis with eight weeks of back-lying required. Don Leidheiser visited from Lamar College and his brother Dick awaits February 1 leave from Keesler AFB. Medical patients at Saline Community Hospital include Mrs. Wahl, Mr. Heininger, Mrs. Wurster, Delbert Schenk, Lloyd Klager, and George Needham. Earl Bacon improving at St Joseph Hospital and may return home next week. Pvt Gary Niethammer returned to Ft Bragg after Christmas travel delays. Nancy Gail Holley celebrated her fourth birthday with a party on Rosemary St. Mrs Roy Rogers discharged from St Joseph hospital after 12 days for medical treatment and minor surgery.
