Bloodmobile Set to Visit Saline Area Next Week

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Saline Thursday January 16 to replenish supplies at the Intermediate School from 2 to 5 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Local volunteers staff the Blood Bank with doctors on hand and donors urged to bring donor cards.

United Fund Board Elects Five New Members

The Saline area United Fund reorganized its board with five new members Mrs. Robert Merchant Mrs. Donald Leidheiser Alphonse Burger Alton Ealy and James Levit replacing terms expiring David Gordon Douglas Schuur Mrs Warren Rentschler William Delhey and Robert Estes. The board will meet Monday January 20 at 8 30 p m at Regis Wolfinger 368 Mills Rd to elect officers.

Raisin River applications move forward after state review

The state Soil Conservation Committee accepted Raisin River watershed applications under Congressional Act 566. A public hearing is scheduled for 1 30 pm Friday at Tecumseh Community Center with Washtenaw County Sa Township sponsors and Saline City Council support.

Boy Injured When Gun Jams

James Malocha aged 16 from 6180 Campbell Road was treated at Saline Community Hospital for a gunshot wound to the left forefinger after his .22 rifle fired while he tried to clear a jam. Police noted the accidental discharge occurred during clearing.

Youth Jailed On Drunken Driving Count

A 17 year old Saline youth named Larry Dean Gale was sentenced to 10 days in jail to be served on weekends for drunken driving after a New Year’s Eve four car crash in Bridgewater. Sherrie Murray a Milan teen injured in the crash was treated at Saline Community Hospital. Gale’s car skidded 375 feet before impact and its damage prompted sheriff deputies to note he appeared to lose control while driving toward Bridgewater. The weekend sentence lets him continue school attendance.

Saline Kids Find Diverse Winter Activities At Hemne Field

Hemne Field skating rink serves Saline as a winter social hub with skaters from beginners to pros. Volunteers manage ice making and cleanup while the Key Club supervises the fieldhouse. A new ski club runs on Mondays for six weeks, aided by Hills snow machines. Trapping also grows, with Emery, Green and others netting muskrats, raccoons, mink, and fox for furriers in Manchester.

Elementary Parents Association Meeting Set for Monday

Lorraine Anne Renkiewicz, born Tuesday at Saline Community Hospital, may be Saline’s first baby of 1964 and Miss 1964 if no earlier birth date is entered this week. The child is the daughter of Richard and Emma Renkiewicz of 10075 W Michigan Ave, Saline.

Infant narrowly misses Saline first baby title of 1964

Marvin Paul Steele was born Monday at Saline Community Hospital weighing seven pounds two ounces. He was nearly Saline's first baby of 1964 but resides just across the border in Ann Arbor School District. Parents are Mr and Mrs Paul Steebe of 3920 Ellsworth Rd.

City Officials Reappointed to New City Council Posts

The new City Council held its first meeting Monday with Mayor Jack Bennett reappointing most officials to their posts. Three new commissioners were named James Knight Sr budget and finance Leonard Z Still building commissioner and Hugh Keveling police and fire commissioner. Other commissioners include Donald Dechert streets Robert Strohl public utilities and George Johnson planning who was reelected mayor pro tem. Pan Americans Enroll At Saline High School This Week

Two South American exchange students joined Saline High School this week shaking the campus with language mix and excitement. Enrique Estele from Montevideo Uruguay stays with the Ross family and attends sophomore classes while Ronaldo Amorim Vi esa De Sousa from Rio de Janeiro Brazil stays with the Gali family and joins classes. Both aged 15, Enrique shows quick English gains and flying interest while Ronaldo's strong math helps his English learning as they adapt to snow and farm life in Saline.
