Richards to Head 62 United Fund

E R Bump Richards was elected president of the Saline area United Fund at a Tuesday night meeting held at the Sirones home. David Gordon was named vice president and Erwin Schmid re elected treasurer with Cecelia Ference as secretary. New directors include Howard Hill and Rev Donald Kraushaar among others with Kraushaar named publicity chairman.

Don Rapp to Advise Explorer Post in Portage

St Pauls Fathers and Sons Banquet Draws Large Crowd

More than 160 attendees joined the annual Father and Son Banquet at St. Pauls Evangelical and Reformed Church on February 21. The program featured fellowship singing led by Erwin Schmid, Toasts to the Sons and Fathers by Clyde and Jim Griffin, awards for eldest father youngest father and largest family, and a Chalk Talk by Rev. R. E. Eschmeyer of Lansing. Jeffrey Carl Lange, son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Lange, was noted as the youngest attendee at 10 months.

2nd Local Team Holds High Spot In Bowling Meet

Saline’s Keglers captain Betty Tinker sit near the top as the Michigan Woman's Bowling Association tourney progresses in Muskegon. The team totals 2797, with early leaders Saline Hotel holding first for a week and third with 2928. Detroit squads lead the field. Mae Wright of Saline ranks ninth in singles with 653.

Spaghetti Dinner Planned by St Elizabeth Rosary Altar Society

The St Elizabeth Rosary Altar Society Tecumseh will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday March 4 in the church school auditorium. Tickets run 1.25 for adults and 75 cents for children from 3 30 to 6 30 p m. The menu features Italian spaghetti from Mrs Eugene Rebottaro who has used the same recipe for five dinners. The candlelit room will showcase a live fountain stage flowers and background dinner music from a hi fi.

Rotarians Plan Farmers Day Dinner with MSU Speaker

Rotary club members will host about 40 area farmers at the Farmers Day dinner Thursday at the Saline Hotel. Dr. Ronald Nelson head of Michigan State University animal husbandry will be the speaker with Alwin Gross serving as program chairman.

Mrs Jensen To Head Saline Area Cancer Drive

Mrs. Leo Jensen will lead the Saline area American Cancer Society fund drive for 1962 running April 2 to 29 with a county goal of 30500. Donald Bacon of Chelsea chairs the county drive. several local chairs are listed and Saline plans a mail crusade with Girl Scouts handling envelopes. The year is designated Cancer Progress Year emphasizing early detection and renewed efforts to fight cancer.

Saline to Host District Tournament for Class B and C

Saline High School will host the district tourney with Class B and C games. Saline, Lincoln, Milan, and Willow Run pace the Class B roster. Winners advance to Regional V at Willow Run and IV at Eastern Michigan University. Admission is 50 cents for students and $1 for adults.

Vandals Hit Sa line High School In Large Loot Attempt

Thieves smashed into Sa line High School seeking the money in the vault but left with about $2 in change and caused $1500 in damage. The vault door was damaged beyond repair and must be replaced for a second time in a year.

Saline aims for a third straight Washte Naw Conference crown with a Chelsea win after a 67 46 victory over Roosevelt. Hornets built a 32 20 third period lead led by Ed Strait who scored 21 and pulled 12 rebounds while Saline shot 29 of 69. Roosevelt finished 18 of 61 from the floor and 8 of 14 at the line.

JV's extended their winning streak to 10 wins and three defeats as the Little Hornets doubled the Little Rough Riders scoring 62-31. Saline led 16-4 after one period and 36-13 at halftime with ten Saline players scoring. Craig Milford led the Rough Riders with 15 points while Gary Kind topped Saline with 10.

Savings Bank Increases Capital Saline Bank

Saline Savings Bank sold an additional 1000 shares approved at the annual meeting last month. William Crim, president, announced that all but 24 shares were subscribed by existing stockholders with the remainder bought by employees. The capital rises from 6000 to 7000 shares of $20 each, pending state banking department approval. Previous stockholders had subscription rights at one new share for six held.
