Judd Arnett To Speak at Saline High Graduation

Detroit Free Press columnist Judd Arnett will deliver the keynote at Saline High School commencement. The 94th class, members of the class of 1962, will graduate at 8:15 p.m. in the high school gymnasium with Mrs. Max Haswell directing Commencement Week activities.

Valentine Parties Postponed One Day

Disappointed youngsters with school canceled on Valentine’s Day may attend rescheduled parties in the Elementary and Intermediate schools on Thursday. Francis Lockwood advised listening to the radio for bus status rather than calling officials. Days lost to bad driving conditions will not require makeup per Superintendent Leo Jensen. Weather is classified by the state as Acts of God not deducted from the 180 days.

District officers named in Michigan Well Drillers meeting

George Pulsipher of Willis Road was elected president of district three. Russell Schroen of Zeeb Road in Ann Arbor was named vice president. John E. Schmitt near Ann Arbor will serve as secretary treasurer. Charles Goff of Whitmore Lake was named state director.

Ice Smooths City Roads Keeps Crews Busy

Freezing rain Tuesday evening immobilized traffic and kept city crews at work for four hours. AAA tow trucks handled 15 to 20 calls from 6 to 10 p.m. No injuries or major damage were reported. Detroit Edison and General Telephone said lines remained in operation. Saline Ann Arbor road saw about a dozen cars ditched at once. DPW salted streets for four hours and called conditions fair to miserable. Ted Hill reported 15 to 20 AAA calls, with only two by noon today.

Saline High Students to Perform in District Festival

Twelve members of Saline High School bands will participate in the District Solo and Ensemble Festival at Eastern Michigan University and Ypsilanti High School. Students perform solo with piano accompaniment before a professional judge and may receive a first division rating. Participants include Katrene Gall Lydia Robison Rob Merchant Bob Austin Katy Esch Mike Johnson Chris MacDonald Janet Austin Gay Wedemeyer Gilda Wedemeyer and Linda Wolfinger. The event is open to the public without charge.

Plans Afoot For Explorer Scout Troop In Saline

Explorer Scouting will come to Saline with a new Explorer Scout post for youths 14 to 17. Formation starts soon, charter membership deadline March 1, and meetings will be announced. Dimes Drive Total Reaches 2391.84

Additional contributions this week to the New March of Dimes campaign raise the total to 2391.84 dollars. Mrs. James Carman chairs the drive and reports gifts from Rudy Wahl and Walkers' Five Cent and Dollar, plus contributions from the American Legion, St. Paul's Women's Guild, Westminster Fellowship, Federated Church, and the Rotary Club. A few mail contributions arrived this week.

Local Hospital News Roundup of Recoveries and Admissions

Albert Heininger continues treatment at Saline Community Hospital since Saturday. Jackie Leonard underwent surgery Tuesday at Saline Hospital. Elmer Dean and Karlen Cole had tonsils and adenoids removed Tuesday at Saline Community Hospital and are recovering. Mrs. Terry Keene returns home today from Ridgewood Osteopathic Hospital after February 7 surgery. Fanny Friis remains a patient at Saline Community Hospital, listed as in good condition. Mark Sundling and Samuel Henson admitted to Saline for medical treatment. Harry L. Anderson Jr. convalesces at home, now in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor in room 3375. Sebastian Finkbeiner ill and at St. Joseph Hospital in room 6035. Mrs. Lorin Hunt home Tuesday after two weeks at St. Joseph Hospital following surgery.

Hockey Drills Planned for Saline Youth Teams

Al McPhee Bob Russell and Bill Brink will coach a planned sign up at Henne Field rink Friday evening for junior hockey drills. If interest remains, drills may be held repeatedly on Monday Wednesday and Friday evenings with a goal to form one or two junior teams by next winter. Boys should report between 5 30 and 7 pm Friday weather permitting.

Missionary Speaker to Address Federated Church Dinner

The Rev. Harry Peters, a missionary from Barlovento Venezuela, will speak at Federated Church on Thursday February 22 during a combined church supper and Evening Fellowship. Peters has worked evangelistically in Miranda state and Barlovento, Venezuela, including leadership roles with the Venezuela Mission and outreach in Caracas. The potluck supper begins at 6 30 p.m. with child care provided, and an election of 12 members to the reorganized church council is also planned.

All Around Saline Social News Highlights Weekly Visits

All Around Saline reports weekend visits in Shelbyville and nearby areas. Mr and Mrs Donald Younce and children of Shelbyville Kentucky spent time with Mr and Mrs Clarence Levey of North Lewis Street. A birthday dinner honored Seveys younger daughter Carol Robinson. Marlon, born Thanksgiving Day, is the Younces new grandson. Reverend H L Engel and visiting clerics traveled through Florida on church missions with ties to Michigan Ohio and Florida. Julie Buchanan celebrated an eleven year birthday with friends. Barney Smith attended a Detroit kitchen planning school prompting Gambles to add five new lines. A. L. Pranses national president of the American Youth Hostel organization will visit Saline Valley Farms with a group from Lima Ohio February 24 and 25. About 25 to 35 hostelers will hike, cook, play games, and hold square dances then depart Sunday. Detroit hostellers may visit Valley Farms that weekend.
