No Charge Filed after Mayer Death
An investigation into the death of Ernest Mayer, a 78 year old Lodi Township farmer, found no criminal action to pursue against the car driver. Nau dine H. Smith, 22, of Saline, was driving toward Saline when Mayer stepped into the road. The car skidded on a wet road and Mayer was struck by the rear of the vehicle. The occupants, including an infant and a neighbor’s eight year old, were uninjured.
