Indian Trails Led Early Settlers To Site Of Saine Village

August 12 1824 orange Risdon entered section 1 township 4 south range 6 east selecting a spot for a future city. The area offered abundant food fuel and water with six trails to the site. A salt spring nearby hosted early cabins and a tavern. Risdon platted Saline in 1832 with later additions by Haywood Risdon Bennett Mills and others expanding the village as growth demanded. The first house was built by Orange Risdon in 1829 and hosted the first town election. Proceeds of the Rotary Steak Broil on July 30 66 totaled about 1200 after 900 on steaks. 1500 diners attended, versus 500 tickets last year due to a heat wave.
