Doctor of Education Wayne State honors former Saline resident
Wayne State University awarded former Saline resident J Michael Washburn an Ed D degree on December 7 with a focus in educational administration. Washburn, now Assistant Superintendent for Employee Relations at Wayne-Westland, has held principal and teaching roles across district schools and led contract negotiations. He lives in Canton Township with his wife Sara and children Kim Jon and David.

Troop 416 Holds Court of Honor and Neckercipher Contest
Saline Scout Troop 416 hosted a December 13 Court of Honor at the Methodist Church with Scouts Scouters and friends. Merit badges and rank awards were given and Dean Gillespie won the neckerchief contest with his design to be adopted. Ron Cosby accepted the troop charter for 1977 and plans for a seven day wilderness canoe trip in the U P were announced.

Saline Man Faces Driveaway Charge
A 20 year old Saline man James Edward Gilbee was charged with taking a 1973 Chevrolet pickup left running behind The Keg Tavern on Michigan Ave. He drove to Mills Valley Apartment complex damaging three vehicles and was later linked to an arrest warrant. A separate warrant involves a 27 year old Tipton man for larceny from vehicles behind Thompson's Bar and Lounge on Nov. 12.

Saline Boy Scouts sponsor a paper drive on Saturday January 15 1977 at Murphy's Market from 8 am to 1 pm. Magazines and newspapers should be separated and tied securely. Trucks will collect papers across the community with outlying residents asked to bring papers to Murphy's Market. Proceeds benefit participating troops for Scouting activities.

A Culligan water truck flipped onto its side on S Ann Arbor at Pleasant Ridge as a Saline firefighter controlled a gas spill. Police found no driver error. a factory rear end defect is suspected while the driver, treated for minor injuries, returned to work.
