Santa Claus will visit Saline area children with a cartoon show this Saturday at Community Center. The Gandini Cartoon Show, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, begins at 1 p.m. with a 2 p.m. film in the Junior High School gym. Christmas goodies will be provided for the youngsters.
The recount cost the city $291.60 so far. County canvassers and stenographer billed $248.10 and city election inspectors $43.50, required by law. No bill yet from the Doubleday Co. representative who advised on the machines.
Rachel Woods of 203 Clark Street arrived home after two years in the Peace Corps where she taught teachers of the blind in the Philippines. She traveled via Africa and spoke at a Saline Woman's Club meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The Department of Natural Resources and University of Michigan plan a two year study at the Saline Fisheries Research Station to test the effects of Methoxychlor on fathead minnows and yellow perch. Six streams will be built and stocked this autumn with low pesticide levels to assess reproduction growth and fertility impacts. If needed charcoal filtration can remove Methoxychlor from river water downstream.
City Council approved a planning commission recommended amendment to the zoning ordinance after studying population density in residential areas. The change relaxes lot size and floor space requirements for new homes to provide more living area.
Saline based A Z A Scientific Inc displays products at an Ann Arbor invitational show. Its Discoverer submersible magnetometers and Consumatic-12 data processor are joined by the Pipeline Survey System. The self powered vehicle surveys gas mains detects pipe fractures and can climb walls turn corners and communicate with a control center.
Sixty five dolls dressed by Saline Ford plant employees and wives were returned to the Goodfellows for distribution to needy children in the Ann Arbor Ypsilanti area at Christmas. The annual pre contest honors the finest doll clothes with winners Mrs. Dick Van House of Ann Arbor first place and Salinians Mrs. Bill Heffelbower Mrs. Oscar Ferguson and Miss Joyce Vershum noted for craftsmanship.
Saline city council tabled action on a proposed traffic control order delaying curbside parking limits until June 1 1970. Mayor Hugh Keveling cited winter conditions for asphalt and curb work and noted possible permit rules for special cases with tow away zones and license requirements.
A Washtenaw County Soil Conservation Service review on the Saline River dam washout found cost benefits do not justify aid under Public Law 566. Surveys and meetings in Dundee and Milan noted damage and repair costs exceed agricultural value of rebuilding the dam.
The annual event honors winners Mrs. Dick Van House Mrs. Bill Heffelbower Mrs. Oscar Ferguson and Joyce Versham though only Nancy Ferguson could display her own entry.
