Santa drives high school charity and community groups drives

Social Service board in Saline organized a Santa role through Brownie and Scout groups plus Jensen and Intermediate School staff and church and community groups. Donations included 62 children fed with clothes and meals. Community volunteers from many local organizations helped collect and distribute goods on December 8 and 9.

Saline High students challenge hand holding policy debate

Saline High Junior Tom Mikesell defended a students group stance before the School Board on November 8 arguing that holding hands is natural and not disruptive. Board plans to discuss the matter again at the next executive meeting amid other actions including school maintenance and program updates.

Mary Alice Girbach Wins Ribbons at Michigan Show

At the 42nd Annual Junior Market Livestock Show on December 8 to 10 at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit Mary Alice Girbach won Reserve Grand Championship Over-All Champion Cross-Bred Reserve Champion Angus in the steers category along with cash prizes. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernest Girbach of 2693 Arkona Rd.

Beautiful Music Here High School Concert Tonight

Saline area schools present a December concert lineup with the High School Band and Mind Chorus performing carols such as Away in a Manger Silent Night and We Wish You a Merry Christmas under directors Terry Davis John Wise and Malcolm Danforth. Middle School and Jensen Elementary choirs follow with varied Christmas selections as the public is invited. Hospital holiday decor includes a lobby tree and nurse decorations.

Ford plant doll dress contest winners named

Saline Ford plant women participated in a company sponsored doll dressing contest. The article highlights the committee members in the photo holding the winning entries led by committee chair Mary Biés. Susan Krueger holds the second place entry created by Donna Samonek.

Ford Contest Yields Toys For Needy

Ford Motor Company Saline Plant employees and spouses judged 73 dolls dressed for Christmas. First prize went to Mrs. Nancy Ferguson, with $25. second to Mrs. Donna Samonek, $15. third to Mrs. Raymond Mitchell, $10. fourth to Mrs. Merrill Smith, $5. Dolls donated by Ypsilanti Goodfellows will go to needy girls on Christmas morning.
