First TV Tapes Made At Jensen

Televised education begins in Salimie school system with local tapes made at Jensen School. First graders from Pat Ritsema and Mary Sharp classes star in an unstaged phonics lesson. Superintendent Harold Hintz operated the camera as monitors are installed for four schools. The film will be shown to Jensen students and staff and later at Houghton School.

Saline Area Schools Names Year Advisory Committees

Dorothy Crim chairs the Saline Area Schools Advisory Council which appointed new members for the coming year. New members include Mrs. Aaron Gierbach for Pittsfield Township and Mrs. Cecil Ford as a city representative. The council's committees are led by Allan Grossman on the finance committee and Barbara Lamberson on publicity and membership.

Lodi Petition For Re zoning Withdrawn

Turner Lodi Greenhouses and Nursery owners withdrew a request to re zone their 4431 S Wagner Rd site to commercial to permit expansion and reconstruction after a zoning study. About 200 residents had opposed the change though not the greenhouse operation itself.

Christmas Concerts Set Across Schools

Public invited to Junior High and elementary school Christmas concerts at 7 30 p m with bands and choruses directed by David Walter Malcolm Danforth Mac Danforth Shirley Cochran and Lester Mc Coy. High School concert features 150 voice chorus and 75 member band with Dennis Johnson directing the Messiah overture on December 20.

Christmas Story In Music Program At Saline Baptist Church

Saline Baptist Church presents The Christmas Story in Candlelight Carols arranged by Don Hustad. The 7 p.m. program features piano prelude Joyce Dieterle organist Hannah Geddes vocalists and a full chorus with soloists and duets. The narration includes The Foretelling Nativity and Simeon and the Child with choirs performing O Come All Ye Faithful.

Club Plans Carol Sing at Ypsilanti Hospital

The Saline Child Study Club will host a carol sing at Ypsilanti State Hospital on Tuesday evening. Members meet at 6 30 p.m. at Mrs. Ormand Jedele’s home and return there after carolling for a business meeting.

A Rolling Meadows carolling group with 10 members rehearses on Wednesday evenings and plans to go carolling Friday evening December 22. The next rehearsal is at Mr and Mrs Robert Beauchamp 47 Tower Dr on Wednesday December 20.

Senior Citizens Plan Potluck Christmas Meeting

City appointive posts shuffled in council meeting

In a Monday special session the city restructured appointive posts to streamline government and better serve the public. Robert Harrison becomes city treasurer while retaining assessor duties and Board of Supervisors representation. Maurice Doll continues as city clerk with Constance Hertler as deputy clerk-treasurer. Dick Cole gains DPW supervisor duties, relieving City Administrator Mike Strait. Strait remains administrator and city superintendent with water and sewer oversight. Walt Moore named DPW foreman.

Volunteers Aid Ford Blood Bank at Saline Plant

Nineteen local women volunteered at the Red Cross blood bank in Ford Motor Co Saline plant on Tuesday. The drive collected 186 pints from 170 donors, with 34 deferred. Doctors Paul Gerigk and Raymond Bernreuter assisted, along with numerous volunteers including Mrs. Har ld Armbruster and Mrs. Kenneth Auten among others.

State Library Expert To Inspect Saline Schleh Building

Miss Elizabeth Lindsey, a Michigan library consultant, will visit Saline Thursday morning to review the Schleh building and floor plans for converting it into a library. The Saline Public Library board backs purchasing the building and will present the proposal to United Fund members at the Thursday meeting.
