Local Robberies Tied to Milan Man Rangel

Antonio Rangel of Milan has reportedly confessed to two local armed robberies. He and his father were taken into custody December 4 on felonious assault charges and later identified by victims. Rangel arraigned December 11 in Chelsea court, held on $30,000 bond, link to Domino's Pizza hold-up and the Archie's Tavern incident. An accomplice remained at large. Police also report other local incidents including vehicle theft and vandalism.

Gifts Top Mark Final Saline United Fund Pledges

Garry Evans reports Saline United Fund pledges total 52 843 61 in a drive that exceeded the 48 827 26 goal by 4 016 35. Contributions covered industries 44 340 64 business 2 191 residential 4 906 97 hospital 548 service clergy 170 and professional 687. The campaign thanks supporters and notes funds will fund programs in the Saline area.

A Christmas Fantasy Dance Troupe Benefit in Saline

The Saline Jaycees stage a Sunday December 10 performance at Saline High School auditorium titled A Christmas Fantasy. Saline Community Hospital announces the retirement of Mary Surgenor Director of Nursing after 30 years of service in Pinckney. Judy Ivan, Assistant Director since 1970, will become Director of Nursing upon Surgenor’s retirement. Ivan joined the hospital in 1966.

Saline Area Schools announce 13 day Christmas break

Saline Area Schools will have a 13 day Christmas vacation from December 20 to January 1. The last day before break is Tuesday December 19 with a full day for all pupils, and classes resume Tuesday January 2. Youth Drug Seminar Series Expands Community Reach

The Drop-In Center announces its second drug education program to be held Sunday December 10 at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Center. Ann Arbor Drug Help will direct activities with about 50 participants from the first seminar. The program will cover drug identification causes and cures with small group discussions and emphasize communication and personal relationships.

Saline Area Schools will review their drug education curriculum after an Ann Arbor study suggested short term programs may unintentionally increase marijuana and LSD use and alcohol consumption among seventh and eighth graders.
