Saline Rotarians and guests toured Detroit Edison’s Monroe nuclear plant last week. The expansive facility, a boiling water reactor, will require about 914 million dollars by 1980 and boost Edison’s output by around 10 percent to power about one million people.
City council postponed action after a public hearing on the Michigan Ave C-2 to professional business rezoning. About a dozen residents spoke mostly against the plan citing impacts on property values and shortage of commercial land in Saline.
Saline police logged many thefts last week. Items stolen include a Chevy Blazer battery from 783 W Michigan Ave, six car tapes from a Bemis Rd vehicle, four hub caps from a 1973 Corvette on Valley Circle Dr, and a yellow 10 speed girl’s bike. A motorcycle crash on Hillcrest left 19 year old David Courtney hospitalized. Police handled 135 complaints.
Ann Arbor judge Edward Deake will hear oral arguments Friday in a dispute over Pittsfield Township annexation of land in southwest Pittsfield Township sections 30 and 31. The case targets the legality of the State Boundary Commission as a constitutional body and whether the city’s petition contains a valid legal description of the land to be annexed. The City of Saline and the State Boundary Commission are named in the suit filed last October.
A Saline area group visited the Huron Valley Women's Facility on Bemis Rd to hear assurances on security. Supt Gloria Richardson and Rudolf Stahlberg outlined safeguards, a phone alert system, and plans for a community liaison committee and regular updates. They noted past escapes at Deboco were reduced by Omnispector surveillance and pledged ongoing evaluation.
