In Saline the scene contrasts horse-drawn sleighs before the Observer building, once adjacent to the Reporter building. The Observer shop, longtime home of the local newspaper, was leveled by a bulldozer last year. Across the street the block resembles today but with newer fronts and a removed frame building replaced by a city parking lot.
Bill Meister Jr of Lawson Jr became the second Brookside ace after using a 2 iron on the 212 yard 5th hole during a Thetford Engineering League round. Duffy Williams previously aced the same hole last year, with Williams' family noted here. The Saline All-Stars also lost exhibition games to Fel Kran of Ann Arbor, while Ann Arbor ended up runner up in the State USA finals to Stoker's of Lansing at Vets Park.
Three teachers Jean Fick Nancy Campbell and Una Dicks vacationed last week in Nancy's travel trailer in the Lower Peninsula. They toured Interlochen State Park the Interlochen Music Camp venues Benzonia and Charlevoix visited Old Mission Peninsula Mancelona and Hartwick Pines State Park and gathered woodland materials for classroom terrariums. Cyclists urged for Saline Fair Parade as turnout worries may scrap the motorcade plan inviting riders ages 8 to 80 to join by calling B K MacDonald at 429 7928 or visiting 318 N Ann Arbor.
