Saline Hosts State Softball Tourney With Eight Teams
Saline prepares for a state girls slow pitch tournament at Henne Field this Saturday at noon with eight teams from southeast Michigan including Saline Savings Bank and Citizens Bank. The winner advances to nationals in Florida, while district and regional action continues through August with Saline teams posting early shutouts and close losses in Class C and D action.

Saline Council Acts on Purchases and Staff Shakeup
Saline City Council approved a 101747.02 payment to J F Sadler for waste water plant work and bought a 2900 Dodge truck to replace a 51 Ford used by DPW. A 7370 Ford dump truck will aid street work, with snow removal in mind, as the GMC unit moves to the sewage plant. Julia B Rapp resigned as City Clerk-Treasurer. Jack Vaughan was named interim replacement and Julia became deputy clerk-treasurer when needed. The council also considered ballot proposals for the November millpond issue and discussed adding Edwin Hering property to the park system west of Houghton School.

Flag Football Opens Saline Season With Six Teams
Six teams registered for Saline's first flag football league to begin in late August at Henne Field. Organizer Jim Martek chaired the Monday meeting and set August 23 as the signup cutoff, inviting more teams to join. Current managers include Dave Pittman Vic Cook Wayne Poore Dick Lossing Jack Kuebler and John Peterson.

Pool finds and thefts reported in Mill Valley area
A soggy burger from Big Boy Restaurant was recovered from the Mill Valley Apartment pool on Aug. 15. Michael Walters reported a stolen blue 1972 Harley Sportster, V-847, valued at 2100 dollars from Thompson's Lounge parking lot on Aug. 15. Betty White reported a stolen 26 inch blue and white Hiawatha bicycle on Aug. 12. Dormar Yocapetta, 19, was slightly injured when her car rear ended Patrick Wojtylo's on Michigan Ave at Austin Rd on Aug. 15, she refused treatment. Officer Dicks checked a defective meter and his patrol car rolled into a home at 107 E. McKay causing porch damage.

Mediator cancels meet as wage price freeze announced
The Saline Area Board of Education and the Saline Education Association cancel Tuesday’s meeting with mediator Leo R. Cadwell and plan a new session on Aug. 24. Any salary decisions would wait until after the wage price freeze ends. Saline schools run half days Aug. 7 and 8 with varied kindergarten sessions.
