County Group To Launch CF Drive Here

Washtenaw county chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis organization will launch its September drive for funds with a dance at the American Legion Home. Mrs. Robert Starling announces Ken Volz and his orchestra will provide music for the dance on Saturday September 8. The drive will be a letter campaign. An $11,191 grant to the U M Medical Center CF Clinical Studies Center supports care program development and CF research.

Saline High School Vo-Ag Program Shaped by Year-Round Study

Saline High School's vocational agriculture program operates year round, turning students into skilled agricultural workers. Of 1961 and 1962 graduates, 12 pursue farming, six attend or are admitted to colleges, and two enter related occupations. Notable graduates include State Farmers Stanley Poet and Neil Bohnett. Al Ealy leads the department, stressing agriculture as a scientific, complex field requiring capable, informed participants. The program includes FFA.

Six Injured In Crash On Bethel Church Road

Six people were injured with two in critical condition after a head on collision on Bethel Church Road Sunday evening. Victims included 13 year old David Wallo in critical condition at University Hospital and 18 year old Anthony Rafalski in critical condition with multiple fractures.

City Clerk Bill Muir announced 1309 Saline residents are registered for the August 7 primary. About 40 additions and corrections were processed, with some deletions also recorded.

Fire chasers urged not to block road access

Firefighters warned spectators not to obstruct roads while responding to country fires. Cars lining the routes slow water trucks and ambulances, create dust clouds, and endanger drivers. Firemen urged observers to park entirely off the road, even if it means leaving the ditch.

Local Owners Shine in Holstein Shows Across Washtenaw

Washtenaw county farmers dominated the Washtenaw Wayne Black and White Show and the Michigan Black and White Show at the Rural Activities Center. A Holstein owned by George Macomber and Sons of Ann Arbor was named best aged bull and grand champion. Marilyn Frey of Ann Arbor won senior yearling and senior showmanship honors, with Phil Spike of Manchester topping judging.

Bethel College Choir to Sing at Federated Church

Saline School District seeks one year levy for 1962 63

Saline area residents will vote on September 4 on a one year levy of 3.85 mills to operate the district in 1962 63. The board released the operating fund statement showing a 73000 deficit over three years and a 41000 increase in teacher payroll aimed at hiring new teachers and raising salaries.
