BB Shooters Hit Curtiss and Bank Windows in Vandalism Spree

Pellets damaged two Citizens Bank picture windows costing about 1000 dollars. Police suspect a moving vehicle fired the shot and targeted a home on E Henry and a car on Michigan Ave. Curtiss Park vandalism continued with a 4x4 tearing up the baseball diamond for the second time this spring. A 17-year-old was arrested for possession of open intoxicants at Curtiss Park. Police seek witnesses to a Ford Mustang that struck a tree and hydrant near Pleasant Ridge and Canterbury on Saturday. A baseball glove was found at Brecon Park and may be returned to its owner. Late evening Saline Area United Fund meetings address budget hearings in May and invite agency requests by May 18. The 16 member agencies will present requests. officers and board members are pictured at Saline Community Hospital.

Saline Opens New High School Baseball Diamond

The inaugural game on Saline’s new high school baseball diamond saw the Hornet J.V.s rout Milan. The project, funded by donations totaling about 6500, involved eight inches of topsoil, 34 tons of surface, and new bases and backstop. Tom Conrad Ralph Myers and Gerald Loader led the volunteer effort with community support.

City Honors Bixby First Ambassador in Saline

Saline City Council recognized marionette artist Meredith Bixby with a plaque and named him Goodwill Ambassador for the city. Mayor George Anderson lauded Bixby for his 41 years of puppeteering and more than 30,000 performances reaching 10 million people in 5,000 communities east of the Mississippi. A Parking Fine Committee was formed to study lowering fines from $2 to $1, with participation from City staff and local business representatives.

Saline Walkers Set to Hit 12 Mile Route Saturday

More than 400 hikers signed up for the Saline Area Walkathon with 50 prizes and sponsors pledging support. The event, led by Jan Loader, funds birth defect research and will include a 10 a.m. start, ribbon ceremony, speeches by Mayor George Anderson and Rev. Stanley Hartmann, and pre registration at the Middle School. Proceeds aim to push the four year total past $25,000 as volunteers greet walkers at the utility drive southeast of the Middle School.
