Proposed Village Government Change Circulated Soon

Residents of the village, Mayor Mark B. Sugden and Trustee Walter Cook attended the Michigan Municipal League convention in Bay City on September 17 18 and 19 and brought back plans for replacing Saline's antiquated village government with a city form. The city plan promises tax savings, county board representation, and centralized voting. Several Michigan villages with populations over 750 have adopted city government with success, including Farmington Imlay City and South Lyon. The charter would create a separate township and remove township taxes, with broader home rule powers. Citizens express enthusiasm, but no action until a petition circulates and is presented to village trustees.
