Steer Judging Highlights at Saline Community Fair

Alice Sheehan wins Grand Champion steer Georgie at 1 040 pounds with praise for balance and finish. Neil Harrer earns top 1 050-pound Hereford Peanuts, judged strong but slightly overdone. The event featured junior exhibitors and a large crowd with races, horses, and beef displays nearby.

In Saline the Miss Saline winner caused a flashbulb frenzy as Bob Chez tried to delay the announcement. Pat Beaverson and Michelle Walsh finished as first and second runners up amid tears and cheers.

Man Found Dead in Car in Sharps Township Field

The body of a 56 year old man, Oscar Radke of Ann Arbor, was found in a car abandoned in a field off Pleasant Lake Road. Death ruled suicide by Dr Rundenz Douthat, Saline deputy medical examiner. Frances Visel crowned Miss Saline 1959 after a Marine escorted contestants to the stage during a chilly Saline Community Fair event.

Universal Die & Mfg. Co Buys Reserve Champions at Auction

Universal Die Mfg Co purchases both reserve champions at the Steer Show auction. Alice Sheehan won the tie for Grand Champion and Neil Haarar the Reserve Champion, with $325 donated to the Community Hospital Fund. Auctioneer was Joseph Day of Charlotte. Daisy Market of Ann Arbor bought the Grand Champion steer at 77 cents per pound.

Three dogs kill ten chickens at Lambarth Farm

A pack of three dogs killed 10 young chickens worth 2 dollars each on the Lambarth Farm in Led township. Deputies reported the dogs, seen attacking the flock, escaped before capture. An investigation to locate the owner is ongoing. Mrs RT Bridgewater is visiting sister Mrs William Martin.

Mrs O Neill Sees Nephew On Air Force War Film

Mrs. O Neill, watching the Air Force program Sunday at 6 30, saw her nephew Frank Spindler briefed before a second raid on Polesti oil fields in World War II. The program also recalls Ray Gleason, a local boy lost in the mission.

Saline High Band to march in tenth annual Band Day at Michigan

Tractor contest at Saline Fair largest ever held

The Saline Fair featured a record tractor pulling event with 41 entrants. Alwin Gross and George Bonich managed the contest as four prize classes awarded to drivers including Tom Love Allan Phelps and Richard Weisenreder. The traditional tractor backing contest by FRA was canceled.

Four Way Stop Implemented at Saline-Milan and Stony Creek

Washtenaw County Road Commission approved a four way stop at the junction of Saline-Milan and Stony Creek roads to reduce accidents. Signs were erected on Saline-Milan and Stony Creek already had stop signs. Brush obscuring vision along Saline-Milan will be cleared to improve safety after a June fatality.
