Arthur Heininger, already serving on the city council, agrees to run as a write-in for a one year term. He was appointed after Dr Buck resigned to fill a justice position and the ballot vacancy arose with two of three seats open.
Judge Jay H. Payne unveils a fire resistant single level juvenile home plan for 14 placed children with emergency capacity for 22. The project would be funded by transferring 110000 from the County General Fund to a dedicated Juvenile Home Building Fund and placed on Platt Road near Washtenaw Road pending approval.
Plans are underway for a large Membership Banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday November 4 at the American Legion Home in Saline. The event honors 1955 dues card holders from Wm. B. Lutz Post with this meal on the house. The Legion Auxiliary will prepare the dinner and welcome all eligible veterans to join the organization.
Methodists in the Detroit Conference plan a Spiritual Life Mission from October 31 to November 7. Rev. Robert C. Geiger of Hartford will guest pastor, delivering five sermons at 10:00 a.m. kickoff and nightly sessions focusing on worship, witness, stewardship, and family faith.

The Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Morton Grove Illinois has extended a divine call to the Rev H L Engel pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church Saline. United Press releases Saline High earns third in state class C rankings moving up from seventh last weekend. Saline remains unbeaten while higher ranked teams faltered. Top five include Lansing Everett Cedar Springs Grand Rapids Lee and Coloma.
Delinquent taxpayers are reminded to pay their 1954 summer taxes by October 39 to avoid addition to the 1954 winter tax roll.
The Child Study Club supports building a Juvenile Home. The League of Women Voters presents a fact sheet noting no tax increase since funds are on hand. In 1953, 103 neglected or delinquent children lacked a local home, 12 were sent to other counties, and 19 were housed in the county jail.
Rotarians plan to collect old magazines at today’s meeting to hand to Paul Lambert for delivery to Ypsilanti State Hospital patients. They note reading material is scarce and old magazines with good stories and pictures help patients during hospitalization. Pat Roesch reported on a recent area Rotary Conference attendance, calling it one of the finest meetings he had attended. Two new members, Rev Frank Benish and Robert Klueter, were welcomed with membership pins by Rev Alvin Siemsen.
Candidates withdrew leaving Milton Hartman as the only candidate for one year. A legal opinion says the winner is the candidate with the most write in votes. Art Heininger has entered the race for vacancy. For the two year term other contenders include Henry Leutheuser Jerry Coe Frank Deede Carl W Carr and J C Little. Dr John Buck seeks re election as Justice of the Peace. Election board members named include Albert Lange Arthur O Neal Dorothy Stimpson Peg Hunt Thelma Burkhart Donna Lange Amanda Rogers Selma Swanson and Sally MacArthur.
Robert Ormsby officially notified of appointment as rural carrier on Route 2 from Saline Post Office effective November 1. Since Don Burkhart retired October 1, Hubert Beach has been delivering the mail.
Saline children will collect for UNICEF during Halloween with bags labeled UNICEF. The notice cites the need to aid children abroad, including Yaws treatment and TB inoculations, and urges donations via Mrs. Frank Benish at the Methodist Parsonage.
The South Saline Extension group renamed itself the Friendly Neighbor Club. It met at Mrs. Henry Hammond's home on October 14 at 12 30 noon with a dessert luncheon. Officers elected were chairman Mrs. Kenneth Ernst, vice chairman Mrs. Wilma Briggs, secretary-treasurer and reporter Mrs. Henry Hammond. The next meeting is at Mrs. Robert Hammond's home on November 11 at 12 30.
