Astonishing Growth Of Farm Bureau In One Year

A year of rapid expansion for the Michigan State Farm Bureau shows it now owns its building and warehouse in Lansing and three additional Wool warehouses. Membership reaches 84 398 across 59 counties with about 90 staff, up from two small rooms and no ten dollar members a year ago.

Saline Council Meets Deliberates on Taxes and Roads

The Saline Common Council held sessions on October 4 and 8 with Trustees Burkhart Seeger Bredernitz Rentschler Wheeler and Curtiss present. Bills from Detroit Edison and other vendors were approved and tax collection extended to October 20. A later October 21 meeting approved standard time change and sewer work requests.

Michigan Crops Dominate National Averages in 1920

Michigan leads the nation in crop prospects with forecasts from October placing the state 108.1 percent of average and above national levels for potatoes beans and beets. The sugar beet and apple crops show strong gains while Michigan ranks among the top states for garden seed production and pean acreage, with 10 240 acres seeded.

Civil Service Exam Set for Rural Carrier Posts in Washtenaw

A civil service examination will be held at the Chelsea post office on Saturday November 13 1920 to fill rural mail carrier positions at Saline and Whitmore Lake post offices and other Washtenaw county routes. The standard 24 mile daily route pays 1880 dollars yearly with 30 dollars per mile for each mile beyond. The Washtenaw board of supervisors voted to grant two months paid vacation to Mr and Mrs W G McCormick longtime county home caretakers.

Wonan's Club Meeting Preserves Books and Plans

The second regular Wonan's Club meeting met at Mrs. George Barr's home on Tuesday October 16 with strong attendance. Delegates to the county federation were elected Mrs. Fred Burkhart Mrs. Unterkircher and Miss Smith. Mrs. Ormond Feldkamp joined the club. A roll call on What on busy woman should read yielded tips and views. The program featured book reviews by Mrs. Sawyer and Mrs. Barr and songs by Miss Smith. Federation Day plans were announced for November 2 with reports to be given.

Intercity timetable shows Saline to Detroit route with departures from Saline at 6 50 a m and every two hours to 8 40 p m 10 45 p m and 1 15 a m and from Ypsilanti at 6 25 a m 7 40 a m and every two hours to 7 40 p m 10 15 p m and 12 45 a m The last car waits for the theatre car from Ann Arbor Connections at Wayne for Plymouth and Noathville at Ypsilanti for Detroit and Jackson in effect May 18 1920.
