Public Meeting Friday Evening On Community Chest Drive

Public meeting scheduled at the school house Friday at 8 o clock to inform the community about the United War Chest drive and Saline’s added Community Chest funding. The drive aims to raise 2000 dollars for these worthy projects and urges general attendance.

Saline Hornets Fall in Season Opener to Romulus

Saline High opened the 1944 football season with a 19 6 defeat by Romulus in a hard fought game. Romulus scored first on a short drive after a long pass set them up, Saline tied it at 6 6 with a second half touchdown, Romulus added another score and an extra point, final 19 6. The community backed the athletic program with strong business support boosting the athletic fund.

Walter Geski secretary of the Ann Arbor Community Chest spoke at the Rotary Club meeting at The Tavern last Thursday noon outlining plans Saline could follow for the United War Fund and Community Chest drive set to begin about the 18th. Mrs. Lance Rogers Mrs. Merritt Martin and Mrs. Walter MacArthur attended to report back to their groups. Miss Marjorie Noble praised the Girls State sessions she attended in Ann Arbor and thanked the club for sponsorship.

Forensic Club Forms At University Of Michigan

The Forensic Club met on September 26 under Mrs Til ler sponsorship. Officers elected include President Mary Caryl O'Neil Vice President Margaret Davis Secretary Donna Stoddard Treasurer David Cuff. The group studies dramatics and plans a debating team and University of Michigan contests in orations and declamations.

City and Township Paper Collection

A city and township paper collection will be held all day Saturday October 7. City residents should place newspapers cartons and magazines at the curb by 9 am. Youth groups will assist and meet at the fire hall 8:30 am. Rural residents may bring papers to the barn behind Gross Hardware. Proceeds benefit local youth groups. Community Party Opens Season With Dance and Games

The first community party of the season gathered about 150 people Monday at Willow Run. Hans Schmidt organized the event with Miss Nebbergall at the piano, and refreshments from the Community Council and Sub-Debs followed a lively games session. The evening featured square and round dancing and honored new teachers. Next party on Monday Oct 9 will present the first annual report including the summer playground and a talk by Prof. Howard McClusky of the University of Michigan, followed by a dance.
