Saline Kiwanis Chub to celebrate first anniversary dinner

The Saline Kiwanis Chub observes its first anniversary with a 6 30 p m birthday dinner Monday Oct 6 at Martys Restaurant. Milton Hartman Saline Rotary Club president attends along with Arbor Eastern Ki Club members and Kiwanis Division officers. Two new members will be inducted and a perfect attendance list read plus a treasurer Howard Hill financial report. Walker s Bakery donated a birthday cake and Mrs Merritt W Martin Sr Kiwanis Club pianist will lead a group sing. About 60 Kiwanians expected.

New Saline Nursing Home Redecorated and Expanded

Mrs. Marie Campbell director announced the Saline Nursing Home on the Saline Milan Road has been completely redecorated. The home is operated with Dr. C. B. Jackson of Livonia as co-owner and associate. There are 12 patients and room for one more.

Hoover Ball and Bearing Plant Opens for Family Day Tour

Hundreds tour the Hoover Ball and Bearing Division plant during a Sunday Family Day open house. The $3.5 million facility sits on a 90 acre tract off State road near Ambor Us highway and showcases bearings and balls from powder size to the size of small apples, assembled and packaged for market.

The Better Business Bureau of Detroit warns housewives in Washte naw Wayne Oakland and Macomb counties about an at home work scam selling padded priced knitting machines. Post cards and phone offers promise $25 per week but buyers end up with debt and no earnings. After a hearing 25 complainants led to a false advertising warrant against a seller.

Saline High School Project On Track For Roof By Nov 1

Construction of the Saline High School, a million dollar project, is reported well ahead of schedule. Kurz Construction Co. says the building should be under roof by November 1 with steel roof decking arriving this week and boilers, windows, and decking progressing.

Sanitary Sewer Project Speeds Toward Saline High

Construction on the sanitary sewer for the new Saline High School is progressing satisfactorily as tunneling under U S 112 begins. The sewer will run from Mon-Toe Street through City Park and along the Saline River to the school. A ten inch water main to the High School has been completed. Union Construction Co. of Milan holds both contracts.

Mr and Mrs Ross Adair attended the Hillsdale Fair on Saturday afternoon. Last Thursday Mrs Everett Wolfin and Mrs Robert Starling attended a Lenawee and Monroe County CES Association meeting and dinner in Adrian. Mr and Mrs Sherman Sikes and daughters moved from Saline to a new home in Ann Arbor. Mrs Sikes will stay as office manager at the Saline Observer.

Rolling Acres Homes Ready For Growth In Saline

Four houses in Mark Hanna court of the Rolling Acres subdivision are under construction, with sewers water mains and lead ins installed. The project will comprise 19 homes and construction began in September per Saline Building Inspector Prank Harms.

Construction on the new Saline Hospital at Mills Road progresses just about on schedule. Plastering began Monday and work started May 1, according to contractor Reuben Ink Beiner.

The Washtenaw County Farm Bureau will hold its annual dinner meeting at Saline Elementary School at 7 30 p m on Wednesday Oct 8. Ann Arbor Police to Auction 77 Abandoned Bicycles

The Ann Arbor Police Department will auction 77 bicycles found abandoned on city streets over the past three months. The sale is set for 1:00 a.m. Saturday October 4 at the rear of police headquarters on South Fifth Avenue. Lost owners may inspect the collection at the station before the auction to prove ownership.
