Saline High Majorettes Perform at Detroit Lions Game

Ramona Owens Doris Alber and Joan Wurster led Saline High drum majorettes in a half time display at Briggs Stadium Detroit. The performance marked the second Saline High participation in Detroit Lions game festivities with 500 musicians from ten high schools and Wayne University and about 1,000 singers on the field.

Clinton Couple Weds in Saline Parish Ceremony

Dorothy Kohler daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Kohler and Robert Girbach son of Mr and Mrs John Girbach were united in marriage at St James Evangelical and Reformed church five miles west of Saline. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev C A Haneberg with a reception for 200 at the Polar Bear Inn. The bride wore a white slipper satin gown and halo veil and blue suit for travel. The couple will reside on a Brown Road farm in Saline Township.

Saline Woman's Club Plans Wheelchair Gift to Veteran

The Saline Woman's Club met Tuesday at Mrs. Bessie Collins home. President Mrs. J N Lewis led the business session announcing plans to present a wheelchair to a veteran at Percy Jones Hospital and raise funds for the effort.

The Ypsilanti County Federation meeting on October 20 covered Red Cross work by Mrs Edward Clark and Field Service responses for veterans and families. Reports highlighted home nursing classes, Gray Ladies, Girl Scout sponsorship, and scouting work with girls. Members also sang and discussed district activities with plans for the next meeting at Mrs Earl Fosdick’s home.

Miss Betty Austin daughter of Mrs and Mrs Grant Austin of Stony Creek married Pic Clifton Gilbert son of Mr and Mrs E M Gilbert of Hammond District in a Saturday ceremony at the Methodist church in Stony Creek. Rev Ma Percy Lomas officiated with organ music and a traditional wedding march. The bride wore a white wool dress with brown accessories and a lavender orchid corsage. Attendant Mrs Harold Holcomb sister of the groom wore pink with gardenia. Best man was Mr Holcomb. A reception for relatives followed at the bride’s home and a shower in Milan at Odd Fellows hall. The couple planned a short auto honeymoon to the South and return so Pfc Gilbert can report to Fort Benjamin Harrison by November 5 after 18 months in overseas service. he was twice wounded in the hand and is in Bil lings General Hospital. The bride, formerly secretary to the Lincoln Consolidated School principal, expects to join her husband November 15.

Veterans Return Home From War Service And furlough reports

First Lieut Paul E Davis enjoys a 45 day furlough with wife Ir magene Blair and their seven week old son Richard plus in laws Mr and Mrs Martin Blair and Pauls parents Mr and Mrs Ray Davis. Davis returned from Tinian after three months and 18 missions as B 29 navigator over Japan. He will report back to California or further orders. Lorrin Jedele came home with discharge papers after four and a half years in service arriving five days before from overseas in Germany and France. Edward Wiedman also granted wear civilian clothes again with discharge papers. Flight Officer Myron Gallagher Jr released from Las Vegas Air Base October 17 a three year five month in service. He and Mr Gallagher arrived in Saline on the 21st and plan to settle here.

Sister Dies in Milwaukee Hospital

Mrs. Edward Alber learned Thursday that her sister Mrs. Paul Kionka died in a Milwaukee hospital on October 24 after two years of poor health. She was formerly Ella Klein and remembered by Saline friends. Mrs. Maude Greenfield, who broke a hip in Milan, is a University Hospital patient.

Bill’s Tavern on West Michigan Avenue has a blue front plate glass with neon sandwich and refreshment sign. The interior is dark stained with lattice work. booths with deep seated leather will be added at the rear for guest comfort. A Lincolnshire, England policeman now covers 14 villages on his beat.

Infant Baptised Sunday in Trinity Lutheran Ceremony

Mary Margaret Curtiss two months old, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bliss Curtiss, was baptized at Trinity Lutheran church by Rev H L Engle on Sunday morning Oct 28. Sponsors were Mrs H L Engle and Miss Josephine Decker. Guests at the Curtiss home included Rev and Mrs Engle C A Curtiss Miss Decker and Mrs Irving Knapp of Monroe with Mrs Scherdt assisting at dinner.
