The coming week marks the close of the school year for Sa line students. Baccalaureate services occur Sunday at 8 pm in the school auditorium with Dr. Fred Lendrum delivering the sermon and Mrs. George Wood as soloist. Class Night follows Monday May 29 conducted by the class.
Conrad Noll Jr a Willow Run plant engineer has filed nominating petitions to run as a Republican for State Representative from District 2 Washtenaw County. He is 34 with degrees from Illinois College University of Toronto and City College of Law St Louis. He lives in Ypsilanti with Nell and two children and is active in the Ypsilanti Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The Federated Church holds a Memorial Day service this Sunday at 10 20 with guest groups the American Legion and its Auxiliary. The pastor speaks on Memorial Day So What while the choir and Mrs William Bach provide music.

Reflections on spring flora, wildflowers and wartime mobilization conclude with noting historic farm power.
The Alumni Association hosts an 8 30 reception with a brief business meeting followed by welcome to the Seniors by Walter Towler and a Class of 44 member reply. Alumni in Service will be remembered with letters at the dance and autographing of letters for attendees. The public is invited.
Saturday May 27 1944 was proclaimed Poppy Day in Saline by Mayor Alwin Gross. He urged citizens to wear memorial poppies honoring Saline men who died serving America in World Wars I and II.
The poppy links honoring war dead to aid for living veterans. After World War I, Allied groups used poppies to fund relief for disabled veterans and families. The American Legion and Auxiliary adopted the poppy as remembrance symbol with crepe paper flowers chosen for maximum veteran employment, while fabric poppies were rejected for efficiency.

Albert Wandersee presented color slides from his western tour to Rotarians, including scenes from the Dakotas, Rocky Mountains, Salt Lake City, and Boulder Dam. His self-shot 1940 Pontiac Sedan was shown along with sleeping-quarters setup and commentary. Attendees included Guy Miller, Fred Walter, and Roger Warner.
Saline General Hospital reports Mrs Charles Marken and her young daughter returned home last Thursday. Mrs Clark Head and her son came home on Saturday. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Otto Miller on May 20. Mr and Mrs Robert Judson of Milan are parents of a son born May 21. Mrs Herman Bruckner and daughter returned to Mooreville on Sunday. Little LeRoy Manor, after an appendectomy, went home Monday. Sarah Haswell of Saline Valley Farms had her tonsils removed on Tuesday. Troyce Klenk of Milan had a tonsillectomy on Tuesday. Fred Brenson is now seated in a wheelchair and can move about. Wilber Coe is improving.
The Saline Township Board of Review will meet on Monday June 5 and Tuesday June 6 at Hertler's Hall from 9 a m to 4 p m to inspect and review the 1944 assessment roll. The approved roll will become Saline Township's official 1944 assessment roll.
