In Milan this week and every Saturday Dr Frank Gifford Toledo optometrist offers eye exams and glasses fitting at the Milan Hotel from 2 30 to 9 30 p m. Also a note to pay cemetery dues.
Mayor G C Townsend proclaims Saturday May 27 as a veteran made poppy sale by the American Legion Auxiliary. The group buys poppies from disabled veterans and uses proceeds for rehabilitation and child welfare, aiding veteran relief and remembrance of World War I service.
After their meeting last Thursday, Saline Rotary Club members visited the local Ford plant. Edwin Hering guided the tour explaining how soybeans enter the mill as raw beans and exit as oil or meal. The plant produces plastics paints glycerine soap synthetic wool glue bread and ice cream among other products.
Deanna Durbin stars in Three Smart Girls Grow Up shown Thursday to Saturday at Saline Theatre. Critics praise it as the best of the Five Durbin films to date. Also opening next Tuesday Hopalong Cassidy The Frontiersman features William Boyd at the Saline Theatre.
Beginning in June and continuing through July and August the Saline Library will be open to the public free of charge. Staite aid for libraries and a Council gift fund the arrangement. Lucille Henderson serves as librarian and will assist visitors. Hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p m for residents of Saline and surrounding townships.
Church notes list Walter Laxman as minister with a morning worship service at 10:00 and a sermon on The Kingdom of God. Sunday school at 11:15 led by superintendent Ray Davis. Junior League led by Mrs Lillian Burgan and Epworth League led by Miss J Stark. Midweek service Wednesday 7:30 to 8:30 and choir practice Thursday at 7:30.
The district announces all positions for next year are filled except one vacancy after two resignations Mrs Elizabeth Kuebler who has led the high school as principal for three years and history teacher Donald Rock will leave. Donald Hugh Fuller is hired to fill the history and coaching post.
Saline High stayed in second place, one game behind Dundes, by defeating Clinton High 7 1 behind pitcher Finkheimer. The Rockets totaled five runs in the fourth inning and Gall homered with Thomas aboard, while Clinton stranded four with Harrison on the mound. In a non league tilt at Manchester, Saline dropped 5 3 as Bredernitz allowed three hits but six Saline errors doomed the effort.
