Michigan State College home economics extension service advocates pre baiting rats by feeding non poison mixtures for a few nights then placing poison stations around homes and barns. Poultry Manure as a Fertilizer
The season ends when flocks are mostly confined indoors. Each bird yields about eight pounds of manure annually with a composition around 26 pounds of nitrogen, 23 pounds of phosphoric acid and nine pounds of potash per ton. One ton equals roughly three tons of barnyard manure, offering rich nitrogen and phosphoric acid but potential crop damage if overused.
