A Saline observer extols the town’s generosity and density of colleges within 60 miles, notes strong community ties, and praises school and merchant-led rejuvenation. It highlights street cleanliness as a key issue hindering growth and urges city leaders to improve upkeep while celebrating small town democracy and choice over distant urban flaws.
Notice lists a roast beef dinner at St Andrews Hall on Thursday May 20 from 5 to 8 pm. Adults priced at 1.50 and children at 75 cents.
The City Council accepts the resignation of Assessor Ted Stimpson effective no later than July 1. During six years, $562,850,000 of taxable property was added to the tax roll. The council commends Stimpson for his faithful service and notes the difficulty of finding a successor.

Committees discussed Child Welfare and Rehabilitation with charity, Poppy Day reminders, and remarks on posters and a hospital training course.
White Cane Week observed May 2 to 8 with help from local schools and Lions Clubs of Michigan. Printed leaflets distributed to educate about blindness and the white cane symbol. thousands of canes provided to blind residents. lapel buttons sold May 12 to support the cause.
Miss Mary Morden a former public school teacher in Trenton Detroit and Latine was honored at the May meeting of the Detroit Presbyterian Society in the First Presbyterian Church of Pontiac for long service as a Sunday School teacher and her Christian influence among public school pupils. The honor included an honorary life membership in the Board of Christian Education U S A with pin and certificate awarded in a surprise ceremony as a Saline Church delegation attended.
Dr. Douglas Hird and wife arrived in Saline on a visit, staying at the Saline Hotel. They toured Universal Die Casting Plant and Saline School, attended a luncheon for 29 guests, and received city and club welcomes from the Rotary Club and J C Cs. The trip included a city tour, country drive to Mayor Leutheuser's home, and a farewell to Gaylord.
Four boys Charles Gross David Bredernitz Calvin Englehart and Eugene Hunt volunteered for service and left for Ypsilanti last Thursday to report for entry in the army. They are now stationed at Camp Chaffee Arkansas.

Susanne Royal stayed Friday night with Mrs. Diane Gross of East Ann Arbor, according to local social notes.
Herman Alber observes his 44th year in the tambler sawing business begun in 1910. He moved from farm to farm early, now operates a stationary saw on Monroe Street, with first job on Mrs Fred Dieterle’s barn. He notes many barns burned, but his first barn still exists. He lives at 207 W Michigan Ave for 39 years and owns a threshing machine.
