Elementary pupils of Saline School District set March 28 as final Bundle Day for the Save the Children Federation drive. Mrs. Geddes leads Room 21 in collecting warm clothing for needy children, with items including coats dresses pants shoes and infant wear, plus diapers and blankets.
A humorous reminiscence about coworkers in an office who bombard the narrator with out of the blue questions and trick queries. The piece describes awkward exchanges, pranks, and a turn of events as a newspaper office endures a hectic week with equipment hiccups and a wary, good natured chief.

Bill Austin son of Mr and Mrs George Austin of Milan and Peter Spike of Milan have been selected from Michigan to attend the National FFA Convention in Kansas City in October. Bill, a former trombone player, won the trip as a singer this year and will attend as a tenor.
A public hearing at Saline High School discussed zoning changes before council. Chairman Robert Moon outlined zone by zone rules for single family, multiple dwelling, commercial and industrial areas with non conforming properties allowed to remain but subject to the new ordinance if discontinued. The Saline Junior Chamber endorsed the planning commission and urged continued work to completion.
Officer Kirby investigated a crash on West Michigan Avenue last Sunday involving a 1955 Volkswagen driven by Raymond Light of Detroit crossing into the opposite lane and hitting a 1955 Mercury driven by Marvin L. Lighthall of Onsted. Light was cited for not having his car under control. Estimated damages were $100 for the Volkswagen and $150 for the Mercury. No injuries were reported.
Dr. H A Miller of Saline Mitch attends the American Academy of General Practice Tenth Annual Scientific Assembly in Memorial Auditorium Dallas Texas. The academy with over 23000 members is the nation’s second largest medical association. He will hear 35 top authorities on therapy and diagnosis and view 86 scientific and 268 technical exhibits. The academy requires all members to continue medical education with 50 hours of postgraduate study yearly.
Eastern Roark notes a flock of wild geese flying north over Saline yesterday signaling spring arrival.
Saline Senior High Girls Glee Club of 30 members performed at the District Vocal Contest held at Eastern Michigan College in Ypsilanti. Judges awarded two Second Division ratings and one First Division rating, the day’s only first division given to a Girls Glee Club. Director Arthur Katterjohn praises the group for their superior performance and city school pride.
The annual Spring Fruit Meeting is scheduled for March 27 at 8:00 pm in Room 117A of the County Building, Ann Arbor. Karl Bailey, District Horticultural Specialist, will lead the discussion on the latest fruit spraying recommendations and will distribute the new 1958 Spray Calendars.
The Trinity Lutheran Men's Club will sponsor a missionary film titled Light To Darkest Africa at the church on April 2 at 8 p.m. The event aims to support religious outreach.
At the Westminster Fellowship Council of Detroit Presbytery election, Douglas McKenzie a Saline High School sophomore was named Vice Moderator. Other officers include Michael Mays Moderator Nancy Kerr Stated Clerk Kathy Payne Treasurer and a commission chaired by James Carne Terry Davis Carol Sue McNabb Karen Weinburger and Betty MacDonald. The new officers will be installed at the Spring Rally April 20 in Ann Arbor.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Henes and Cheryl called on Mr and Mrs Herman Jedele Friday evening in a social contact note from the local column.
Senior High and Junior High Bands of Saline Area Schools present Festival Concert Friday night at the High School Auditorium. The program includes district contest pieces, a trombone trio, cornet trio, and Leroy Anderson pieces with conducts Arthur Katterjohn. Proceeds support a Saline bands trip to Interlochen in August.
About 500 people attended the Washtenaw County Dairy Banquet at Saline Elementary School. The 12 member 400 agricultural club honored top producers with butter fat over 400 pounds per cow for five years. Frank Kaogska received the highest award a pewter pitcher engraved with herd averages. The four top herd averages went to Frank Kaogska George McComber Frank Girger and Howard Wilkie. Other members own cows surpassing 100000 pounds of milk.
Caroline Lanham of Saline will exhibit her painting The Canal at the University of Michigan Alumni Memorial Hall as part of a Michigan Academy of Science Arts and Letters show featuring 46 members. The 62nd academy meeting runs Thursday through Saturday with gallery hours through March 28.
Local clubs and church groups announce meetings and activities from March 26 to April 18. Highlights include band parents club screening The First Chair, FCC meetings, Detroit Flower Show trip, OES birthday dinner, Red Cross first aid class, and Good Friday services. Public invited to many events.
William G Anderson son of Mr and Mrs Harry Anderson of 208 Detroit street won the Oreon E Scott Freshman Prize awarded to freshmen in the top ten percent of their class during their first semester at the University of Michigan. About 281 students earned prizes this year. a convocation and Honors Convocation will present books and honors.
Saline Chapter OES invites Past Matrons Past Patrons and life members to a 6:30 dinner at the Masonic hall on March 31. The Past Matrons and Patrons will perform the Degrees Miss Pat Teachout will be received into the organization, daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Teachout. Chapter celebrates its 6th year with Mrs Imogene Hertier serving as co ordinator.
