Mrs. MacArthur shares Vermont history noting Washington's influence in joining the original states, Vermont's Revolutionary independence, and its 1791 statehood after a brief period of self rule. Sunrise crowds in Rutland marked the 1791 flag raise as locals welcomed the new state.
The Universal Bowling Team took fifth at the State Bowling Tournament in Flint on Saturday March 6 led by Owen Hoeft with a 623 series. Team members were Owen Hoeft Ted Ormsby Robert Exelby Arthur Michalke and Mike Bredernitz. Final totals show 2828 actual pins and 3140 with handicap for fifth place while 18th in actual pin fall. Individual scores listed: Hoeft 623 Ormsby 532 Exelby 587 Michalke 580 Bredernitz 556.
The Child Study Club elected officers at a March 2 meeting at Mrs. Henry Karner home. Mrs. George Wood became president, Mrs. Paul Reed vice president, and Mrs. Ray Krempel secretary-treasurer. A silent auction yielded excellent results. The next meeting at Mrs. Joe Bondie’s home March 16 at 8 p.m. will feature Mr. Robert Rosma of the Michigan Children's Institute speaking on Guidance and Discipline for the Child 7 through 12 Years.
The Saline Board of Education summons all electors in the Saline Area School District to a meeting at 8 00 p m in the high school gym to discuss building and fund proposals.

New births report multiple families with dates in March. Tonsillectomies performed on patients from Milan Ypsilanti and surrounding towns.
Opportunities for a military aviation career are open as the U S Air Force invites applicants to join Aviation Cadet training programs. Prospective pilots or observers can apply now to begin training paths toward commissions and air service roles.
The Saline Board of Education met March 4 1954 with full attendance to approve a building program for a twenty room school expandible to twenty six and a cafeteria auditorium. A special election on a 615000 bond was proposed with construction items totaling 616880, and minutes to be published for accurate proceedings. The board continued March 7 with options on the J C Little site and authorized the bond election.
The Red Cross mobile unit visited Hope Chapel in Livonia on Wednesday. 145 donors overcame impassable roads to pledge support to the Red Cross campaign. Volunteers raised 41 203 toward a 150 000 goal, urging community members to join and contribute to disaster relief, hospital aid, and victim support.
Six Class-C district champions meet at Yost Field House Ann Arbor this weekend. Saline faces Clinton in a 7:30 p.m. opener with Clinton the Lenawee County League and Petersburg district title holder. Grosse Ile meets Morenci at 9 p.m. Pinckney and East Jackson draw byes.
The Saline Area Schools Room Mothers Association met March 8 at 8 p m in the high school. Mr Marvin Rorick described agriculture student activities including demonstrations field trips and projects. Officers announced chaperone plans and upcoming teas with duties for next year.
The Saline Area Advisory Council met at Saline High School on Tuesday evening in March and unanimously accepted the building and bond issue proposal from the Board of Education. The council will work cooperatively with the board to present the issue to the Saline Area School District electorate.
A packed schedule of Rotaries, clubs, and school events runs mid March in Saline. Highlights include Rotary luncheon March 11 with Arnold Girbach speaking on the FFA trip, a Fertilizer Demonstration, JCC and band events, a Bosses Night and DSA banquet with Rev. Richards, Dollar Days, a Junior Class Party, and Library Board and Child Study Club meetings. Also listed are Hobby at Piano, Banquet, Electors meeting, Jitney Supper, School Board, Fun Club elections, Willing Workers devotions, and March 12 Lo-Field Farm Bureau gathering plus Cub Carnival preparations and March 30 school event.
Dolores J. Hertler of Monroe will wed Albert C. Church of Ypsilanti in a June 19 ceremony at the Ypsilanti Presbyterian Church. Hertler teaches at Jefferson Consolidated School in Monroe. Church, a Ford worker and U S Marine Corps veteran, is the son of Mr and Mrs Milan L Church of Ypsilanti. The Saline shopping note highlights a Friday and Saturday sale event with local bargains.
Seven Saline Vocal Music students traveled to Pontiac High School for the District Festival. The Mixed Sextet earned First Division for pieces "To Thee We Sing" and "You'll Never Walk Alone." Christina Schnierle and Jim Austin also earned First Division solos, while Christina Schnierle and Gene Austin received Second Division ratings. Sally Stimpson accompanied Tina Taylor and Karen Taylor.
Don Dechert leases the Marathon service station at 184 East Michigan Avenue from Barney Lewis. Barney operated it for three years with indefinite plans. Dechert, a Saline resident since 1940, states the station will offer modern auto service and his brother Roy will join him at work.
The Child Study Club treasury needs a boost and the Ways and Means committee proposes using the classified section to raise funds. The active group urges members to check the classified notices for details and ways to contribute or participate.
George Mains named agent for Standard Oil Bulk Plant in Saline. He arrives from North Adams after prior work at Hillsdale plant and has five years with the company. Ken Jeppesen to remain at River Rouge pipeline terminal until Napoleon terminal opens. family to stay in Saline.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association adopts the theme Dolls for Dystrophy with handmade Guatemala origin earrings. Local Saline JCC Auxiliary supplies these small dolls to contributors and supports research while explaining the disease’s unknown cause and impact on mainly young patients.
The Past Masters Banquet will be held on Tuesday March 16 with friends and relatives invited. Cecil Davenport leads ticket sales and interested guests should contact him. The Eastern Star ladies organize the event.
