Saline High School Hornets finish 1956 57 Huron League with six wins six losses and tied for third, set to face University High of Ann Arbor in the Class C district tournament at Ann Arbor. Gas stations halt trading stamps after April 1, and Gulf Refining plans a new service station at Michigan and Monroe. City council notes building permit application.
Bridgewater baseball youths joined the Detroit Tigers camp in Lakeland Florida as spring drills began. Gary Finkbeiner showed timing on fly balls while Chuck Sanderson took a solid swing and Bob Feldkamp caught. Jim Feldkamp pitched largely with his coat on to protect his arm.
At Saline Elementary School on March 16 the Washtenaw County Dairy Council will select a Dairy Princess to represent about 1400 dairy farmers and processors. Dr. Paul Miller will speak. contest entries close March 11 in Ann Arbor. 500+ expected attendees.
The Saline Room Mothers Association dental health committee begins its third fluoride treatment program for area schoolchildren. Eligible are kindergarten, second, fifth, and eighth graders. full series costs 3 dollars per child. Registration requires parent signatures on cards returned by March 12. Saline Chamber of Commerce announces its next meeting will be a dinner at Still's Restaurant on March 25. Election of officers and installation services will be the main order of business.
Michigan panelists spoke on merit pay for teachers on Wednesday February 20 before about forty five Saline teachers. John Harris Al Helms Jane Walter Ken Mix and Dick Bucksar formed the panel with Grant Wessel of Eastern Michigan acting as chair and mediator. The event was part of a series of demonstrations and debates by the Eastern squad in schools statewide.
The State Water Resources Commission approved an order of determination with standards and waste disposal conditions for Hoover Ball & Bearing Plant on South State Road near Payer Road in Pittsfield Town ship. Meetings included Washtenaw County Health Department Hoover Company and Ann Arbor City representatives at Haven Hil Lodge Milford.
Residents of the Saline Area School District are urged to attend a public meeting on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the high school gym to discuss a survey on facilities needs and future growth for the district. Dr. Donald Leu of Michigan State University will explain the survey and recommendations and answer questions about immediate needs and planning.
A landscaping course for adults begins March 12 at Saline Area High School. Session one runs Tuesday morning from 7 30 to 9 30 with Mrs C A Harris, formerly with Harris Landscaping Service in Ann Anchor, leading the class. Residents requested the course and the Adult Education Committee arranged it.
Visit ends as Mr. and Mrs. Emory Dietrich host their son Donald Dietrich of Boston and Eugene Dietrich aboard the U S N along with Mrs. Dietrich and daughter Diane Lee. They return to their homes after visiting relatives.
