Saline Hornets Close Season Versus Alumni in Overtime

Saline Hornets end their season with a close home game against the Alumni. In a prior meeting the Alumni held the decision, but Saline rallied to beat Dexter 40 to 36 in overtime last Friday. Dale Hirth scored twice in overtime while Ken Gramer helped secure a 36 35 lead late. The district tournament starts next week at Ypsilanti.

Navy Yeoman Harrison Harwood Dies At Home

Harrison H Harwood 32 died Friday night at his parents home 285 Textile road He served as a Yeoman second class in the U S Navy on furlough from Norfolk Va Born March 2 1910 in Pittsfield township he was a Saline High School graduate class of 1928 and attended Hamilton Business College He was active in First Methodist Church Ann Arbor and in church dramatic projects He worked five years as circulation manager of the Education Digest of Ann Arbor and had been secretary to Walter MacPeek Washtenaw Livingston district Boy Scouts He joined the Navy Oct 1 Survivors include three brothers Webb Ralph Pittsfield township and William Denver Colo three sisters Miss Helen Jackson Mrs Richard Correll and Miss Maurine Harwood Pittsfield township Funeral held Monday at 3 o clock with Rev Charles W Brashares officiating interment in Harwood cemetery.

Twins Born At Saline General Hospital

Saline General Hospital reports the birth of twins to Mr and Mrs Frank Russell of Milan on the 28th with the infant girl dying after transfer to University Hospital the next day. The boy remains healthy. Several local families welcomed newborns and hospital arrivals with multiple infants noted and routines.

Willing Workers Meet Sew for Red Cross

The February gathering of the Willing Workers was hosted by Mrs Grace Holcomb on Thursday the 18th. Twenty members attended with three guests. The group sewed soldiers kits shirts and robes after a brief business session led by vice president Mrs Lorena Heininger. The March meeting will be with Mrs Lillie Gilbert.

Miss Ada Dahlgren of Saline High School spoke to the Saline Rotary Club about her World War I experiences with the Caveny Company in France and the Army of Occupation on the Rhine. She described camp shows at St Nazaire, Montoir, and Berlin, with audiences ranging from Red Cross base hospitals to German POWs, and noted memories of soldiers and the postwar travel to Sweden.
