Private Rudolph Feldkamp Saves 50 Invasion Front
Private First Class Rudolph C Feldkamp of Latine Michigan saved fifty lives on the Fifth Army front by stamping out a dynamite fuse under a bridge while his jeep crew worked a wire pile. He stood near the bridge, rushed to his jeep for a fire extinguisher, and returned to extinguish the fuse inches from 200 pounds of explosive. Feldkamp has been overseas since early 1943 with service in North Africa Sicily and the Anzio beachhead. His wife Margaret Wolfe and his brother LeRoy, in the South Pacific, are noted as part of his family in Bemis road Logs.

Saline Public Library Gets State Aid Grant
The Saline Public Library received a $117.91 grant from the State Board for Libraries. Librarian Mrs. Grace Orwick says the equalization fund helps libraries in areas with low assessed valuations to meet state standards, enabling more books magazines and reviews for the public. Donors are asked to contribute National Geographic issues to support the library.

Colored All Stars Open Season Against Saline Merchants
The Colored All Stars of Ypsilanti opened the baseball season by facing the Saline Merchants at the local park. Saline led early on Leidle’s hit, Miller’s RBI single, and Westphal’s sacrifice. Hoeft held the colored team to six hits as Gall shined in right and catching duties later. Saline won 9 to 6, with next game planned for Sunday at home due to gas shortages.
