Saline F. FLA Dairy Team Wins Honors At State Fair

Saline Farm Life Academy dairy judging team placed sixth among 94 schools led by Leonard Burmeister who earned an individual state honor. Poultry team ranked 11th and livestock team 13th. Burmeister also collected a school gold medal for outstanding agriculture work.

Juniors Host Patriotic J Hop Prom In Nontraditional Decor

The junior class held the annual J-Hop on Friday May 22 with a nontraditional green bough canopy and bouquets. The banquet, served by sophomore boys, featured red white and blue accents. Staff Sergeant Margaret Finch directed a program with Beatrice Nelson and Ruth Baumann introducing, followed by patriotic songs and music by the Kampus Kats of Ypsilanti.

Baccalaureate Address Delivered At Commencement Ceremony

Rev W F Baumann delivered the baccalaureate address on Sunday night May 24. Ruth Baumann is president of the senior class with Miss Mary B Thomas treasurer and Leonard Burmeister secretary. A large crowd attended the services with assistance from Rev H Wittbracht and Rev Fred Lendrum. Miss Vesta Millis led the processional and glee club sang two numbers. Gowns were loaned by St Pauls and the Methodist church.

Boys Offered Farm Work Through School Volunteer Program

Seventh to twelfth graders may volunteer for farm labor through agricultural instructor Mr. Burgess. Farmers may request registered boys for available work as labor shortages raise wages. City youth can seize outdoor employment while cemetery dues are noted.

The Saline Theater will begin selling War Savings Bonds and Stamps this week to aid government purchase requests. It is the only Saline location offering them in the evening.

The Saline Township Board of Review will meet June 2 19 and 10 1942 at Hertler's Hall from 9 am to 4 pm on each day to inspect the 1942 assessment roll. The reviewed roll will be used as Saline Township's 1942 assessment roll.

Seniors led a week of ceremonies at the high school with a baccalaureate service led by Rev. Baumann of Freedom Church emphasizing higher ideals in America. Class Night featured valedictorian Alice Gable and salutatorian Ruth Baumann. class song by Doris Jean Davis and Lilah Lange. Commencement speaker Dr. Seaton of Albion College urged education for life as 38 graduates received diplomas presented by Dr. Prout.

Saline Tops Milan 2 1 On Strong Pitching by Weed

Eugene Weed allowed two hits in a complete game as Saline High defeated Milan 2 to 1 to extend their league win streak to four. Keith Cammet and pinch hitter Ed Rentschler delivered the decisive runs, tying the game in the sixth and winning in the seventh. L. Falk pitched well for Milan in a losing effort.

Saline Girl Victim Of Sad Tragedy

Miss Alice Meyers of Saline died after a holiday traffic crash two miles east of Ypsilanti. Born March 31 1921 in Detroit she was 17 years old. Survived by sister Lucille Meyers and Mr and Mrs Edward Alber. Funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church at 2 pm. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Body at Lockwood Funeral Home until noon.

Former Resident Ida Wood Dies in Omaha at 71

Ida A. Wood daughter of the late Isaac and Libby Shaw died Saturday in Omaha Nebraska at age 71. Born September 28 1870 in Saline township she lived in Omaha since her marriage to Mr Wood who died in 1918. Her body was brought to Lockwood funeral home and services were held at Federated church with Rev William Bach officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood cemetery mausoleum.
