Ladies Aid Sewing Day and Hospital Shower Planned

The Federated Church Ladies Aid Society announces Sewing and Work Day on Wednesday August 11 at Mrs Hazen Jewell home. Sewing starts 10 00 am with potluck lunch at noon. Members to bring portable sewing machines and there will be hand work. The event also marks the Hospital Shower tied to the fall Hospital Sewing Quota with towels pillowcases soap pawns bandages washcloths and layette items in demand. Advertising manager Cecil Albertson resigns from Saline Milan and Manchester papers to join Michigan Bell in Jackson. He started January 1953 and helped grow ad revenue. colleagues wish him luck in his new post.

Kevelings Return from Par ris Island Fishing Trip

Mr and Mrs Hugh Keveling and daughter Nancy returned from a vacation at the home of Col and Mrs W B McKeen on Parris Island South Carolina Col and Mrs McKeen and Emily are former Saline residents While there Mr Keveling joined S Squires and C W O Johnson Marines on a fishing trip The Marines caught two 37 and 30 pound cobia and other smaller fish A large shark trailed the boat during the outing.

Washtenaw County Farm Bureau Women met at Saline Township Hall on July 22 1954 with 45 in attendance. Morning wrapped bandages for University Hospital and noon potluck lunch. 24 groups represented at the 1 pm business session. The Methodist Church W.S.C.S. divisions schedule August meetings on Tuesday. Dorcas circle gathers 1:00 pm at Saline Park for a pot luck dinner hosted by Mrs. Don Ford. Ruth group meets at Ford cottage on Wamplers Lake. Mary L. circle hosted by Mrs. Frank Riggs on Ellsworth Road. Esther circle and August W.S.C.S. meetings canceled.

4 H Club Meets At Spike Home

The July Cham p ion 4 H club meeting was at Peter Spike and Karen Spikes home on Stony Creek road. Karen and Peter demonstrated blocking sheep for the upcoming 4 H club show and a club tour was set for August 1 starting at the Low ell Spike farm prior to a rib roast at Duane Rogers home on Saline Milan road. Members who attended 4 H camp at Island Lake near Brighton included Karen Spike Sandy Beckingston Marilyn Faust Richard Seeger and Ronald Rogers.

Grass Fire at Frank Riggs Farm on Zeeb Road

Saline Fire Department responded to a Zeeb Road grass fire near a wheat field at the Frank Riggs farm between Ellsworth and Water Works Roads. The blaze was brought under control with no damage reported.

Dr. Buck Tenders resigns as Councilman Police Commissioner Fire Commissioner and Health Officer effective midnight July 21. He remains Justice of the Peace for Saline. George Wood resigns as Justice of the Peace after seven years, clearing the way for new filling until the fall election.

Scottish Guest Musicians to Sing at Federated Church

Mrs Christine Allen of Alva Scotland and her friend Mrs Johnstone of Ann Arbor will sing a duet at the Federated Church 10 oclock worship service Sunday morning. The pair recall singing as girls in Scotland while on a visit to America hosted by Mrs Johnstone. Rev Henry McKenzie will preach on The Scriptural View of Heaven and Hell upon request.

Bride’s High School Roots Noted In Lima Nuptials

The bride, a Saline High School graduate, attended Michigan State Normal College and worked at General Motors Detroit Transmission Division. Her husband, a Central High School Lima graduate, served four years in the Navy and is service manager at Hammon Television Sales and Service in Lima.

Mary Schill Struck By Car in Detroit

Mary Schill was crossing U S 112 en route to a grocery store when struck by a car driven by Charles L Mathew of 12245 Hayden Detroit. She suffered bruises and shock but no serious injury. The driver was released after being found within the 45 mph limit. Officer Earl Kirby investigated.

District Governor Harold Dorr attended the Saline Rotary meeting at the Saline Hotel with President Gerald Coe and committee chairs. Wood presented a Rotary banner from Germany, and Dorr spoke on Rotary duties, the Golden Anniversary, and expanding membership opportunities.

West Michigan Street adopts parallel parking on Main Street

The din of pneumatic hammers filled Main Street as parking meters were shifted to the south side of Michigan Ave to allow parallel parking. State authorization came about one and a half years ago, reducing spaces by about ten meters. A future Westphal property conversion and house move will restore parking.

Mr and Mrs John George and children of Morris Illinois visited Arthur Hagen home on Wednesday. The Gideons of the Ann Arbor district held their July meeting as a picnic dinner at Saline Park. Broilers were served by Mr and Mrs Art Hagen and Mr and Mrs Harl Myers and family of Chelsea have moved to Saline.
