From Hours to Minutes in Wheat Harvesting Progress
The Grand Rapids Herald-Review notes efficiency gains over fifty years in wheat farming. Sickle and threshing required 35–40 hours per acre, cradle cut saved ten hours, binder cut to 4–5 hours, header added another hour, and today a combined harvester and thresher can ready grain for the elevator in about 45 minutes per acre. Absence of rivals does not increase affection.
