At Federated church on Saturday Miss Grace Clark and Caariel Roy Orwick married after a garden ceremony. Rev. Each officiated with organist Mrs. Edward Murphy and attendants from Ecorse and Ann Arbor. The couple plan to live in Ann Arbor after a short honeymoon.
Miss Genevieve Lenora Gilbert and Harold D. Holcomb married in a garden arbor setting with roses lilies and daisies last Wednesday afternoon in the presence of 75 guests. Rev Bach officiated and Miss Doris Goodin played the wedding matches. The bridal gown was rayon celanese with a long train lace cuffs and blue gardenia cluster. Lois Grace Holcomb was maid of honor and Clair Gilbert best man. A reception followed and a three tiered cake graced the table. The couple plan a wedding trip to Fort Funston and a home on Arcona road. The bride is a Saline High School graduate and attended Michigan State Normal College. the groom Milan High School graduate. Guests came from Milan Pratt Mooreville Saline and Detroit.
In St. John’s Lutheran Bridgewater a Thursday wedding joined Miss Lucille Bauer daughter of Mrs. Samuel Bauer to Erwin Wiedmayer son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wiedmayer of Pleasant Lake road. The double ring ceremony was led by Rev. C M Philipp.
Dr Charles Brashares officiated at the marriage of Miss Louise Hoppert daughter of Mrs Claud Grostic of Ann Arbor and Norbert Hichel son of Mr and Mrs Fred Hichel at the First Continued on page two.
Saline notes a nationwide rubber drive with old boots tires and hoses salvaged for reuse. Rural schools report 18 127 35 dollars in war stamps and bonds with 2 959 students averaging over 56 dollars per pupil. Local residents hear from a Michigan boy about Australia and observations of Pacific waters? and animal likenesses to teddy bears.
Miss Frieda Huggett leads a county wide drive to use all available canning jars amid fears of transport shortages. Residents urged to can meat vegetables and fruit with a target of eighty to a hundred cans per person. Volunteers organize jar distribution and home nursing and child care training.
Mary Morden expresses sincere thanks to neighbors friends church groups and her pastor for acts of kindness during her illness.
The committee announces the first open air concert of the summer season featuring the local band and John Dixon and his Jackson Follies on Wednesday evening July 8. The Jackson troupe will perform tap dances accordion numbers and singing after previously entertaining in Chicago Minneapolis and other large cities.
Mrs Christina Wiedmayer of Ypsilanti and Miss Alice Feldkamp of Saline visited Corporal Raymond A. Wiedmayer at Fort Lewis Washington. They traveled May 24 to Tacoma and spent a week touring the camp and area. Raymond earned a promotion from corporal to sergeant before they returned home.
The annual meeting of School District No. 1 fractional Saline for election of school officers and other lawful business will be at the school auditorium on Monday July 18 1942 at 8 PM. Dated July 1 1942 Secretary Mrs Anna Miller.
Saline General Hospital notes include Miss Shirley Yaeger of Milan having her tonsils removed. Teddy and Jerry Cheever of Milan also had tonsils removed. Mr and Mrs Harold Feeman welcomed a son born June 24. Mrs Donagan and infant returned home Friday. Mrs Eggert returned home in Mooreville last Wednesday. Mrs Donald Francisco and baby went home Sunday. Mr and Mrs VanLeuven of Saline Valley Farms have a daughter born Monday. The Kuhl twins remain in the hospital and weigh 4 and 4% pounds.
Carl Barreith expresses gratitude for community support during his hospital stay and for the flowers sent by neighbors friends and relatives in a note of appreciation.
