Michigan prices are set to increase as soft red winter wheat enters a tight supply not seen since 1951. Stocks for this summer and 1956 production are down from 1955 by significant margins, while the navy bean crop shows a 12 percent rise over last year and sits 50 percent above the 1945 54 average.

Milan's Big Reds, in sixth place with two wins and five losses, host Flat Rock at Milan High School Gym aiming for a fifth place tie. Milan, coached by Dundee’s ball club, seeks improvement after a 60 to 38 defeat to Dundee last Friday, with Norm Weyher scoring 20 for Dundee and Milan’s Joe O’Donnell adding 12.
Milan's Junior High introduces an interscholastic program with 35 seventh and eighth graders forming separate basketball teams. The seventh grade at 3-1, led by Lonny Head and Jerry Hitchcock, while the eighth grade also stands 3-1 with Al Hassen and Charlie Blackmer as top scorers. Coaches are Tion Hassen. practices occur in gym class and Saturday mornings with four remaining games against Saline Lincoln and Tecumseh.
Saline topped University High of Ann Arbor 82 to 47 to stay in third place behind Chelsea. Chelsea defeated a weakened Flat Rock quintet. Dundee next faces Saline High at Saline High School gym as Dundee, coming off a victory over Milan, has one loss this season. Dick Lehthenon led Saline with 15 points, Jim Bradley led University High with 11. University High reserves beat Saline reserves 28 to 24 earlier Friday.
