Mrs. Howard Burr praises broad backing for the Polio Fund with $969.31 turned in and more to come. The Fosdick Extension Group sent $25, and cannisters, Mothers March, Jaycees Day, and other organizations are expected to donate. St Pauls Church Council Elects Officers For New Year

St Pauls Church Council met Monday night to choose officers and plan a year program. Reuben Finkbeiner was elected president with Raymond Girbach as vice president and Otto Wahl as secretary. Norwin Raus is financial secretary and Norman Girbach treasurer. Dale Goble and Rudolph Layher also serve. Regular meetings will be on the first Monday each month and repairs to the parsonage are a priority.

Saline Evening Classes Begin Next Week

Saline invites registrations on Monday February 1st from 7 to 9 pm at Saline High School Hall for new evening classes. One class, Hobbying at the Piano by Arthur Katterjohn, runs twelve weeks for five dollars including a music book. A chorus group directed by Ira Pfeifle may form with no fee, and Contract Bridge is planned for Tuesday nights.

Mothers March Tonight At Saline School Advisory Meeting

At a Saline area School Advisory Council session on Tuesday, a plan was approved to send taxpayer questionnaires to gauge objections and preferences for the school program and to hold neighborhood meetings in various areas. A follow up general meeting will synthesize results. Also tonight at 7, the annual Mothers March for the March of Dimes begins with a siren, porch lights to be lit from 7 to 8, and a local sound track by Larry Deede.

Forger Sent To Prison From Saline Suspect Arrested In Indiana

Richard Brower, wanted in Saline on a forgery charge since January 4, was captured in Indiana and sentenced to Indiana State Prison from 2 to 14 years. The specific conviction charge was not disclosed. Brower had worked as a farm hand near Saline.

A 1954 DeSoto driven by Gail Claxton age 19 of Britton struck a parked car owned by Flora Teland at 5 40 p m Tuesday on N Ann Arbor Street. Claxton cited for lacking a driver license in possession. Damage described as extensive to the DeSoto front and the other car rear.

Special Council Meeting Approves Financial Advisors for Sewerage Plant

City special council on Tuesday evening January 26 1954 with Mayor Leutheuser and councilmen Buck Coe Collins Little Att y Roesch and others discussed sewerage disposal problems and accepted McDonald Moore Co and H V Sattley Co Inc to act as financial advisors and consultants on financing and construction of sewerage treatment and water plant officials authorized to execute acceptance of the offer. Meeting adjourned.

The Ladies Aid Society of Federated Church shifts two circles to the first Tuesday of each month. Saline Library 1953 Annual Meeting Highlights

The 58th Saline Library Association meeting was held at the Saline Library with Mrs. Roy Rogers presiding. Reports were read and accepted. trustees re elected for three year terms. The library operated Wednesdays and Saturdays, with 5031 books and 347 magazines circulated in 1953. The book committee purchased 114 new books and received 50 gift volumes. Officers elected: Esther Landwehr president, Roy Rogers vice president, Charles McCarthy secretary, Carl Curtiss treasurer. gratitude was expressed to local townships for monetary gifts used for library upkeep.

Mrs Mary Lee Burkhardt dies after long illness

Mrs. Mary Lee Burkhardt 70 a lifelong Washtenaw County resident died January 21 at 207 E Michigan Ave following a long illness. She was born October 6 1883 in Washtenaw County and married Charles L Burkhardt in 1901 then Aquilla Lee in 1937. She belonged to St Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include son Elmer Burkhardt daughter Mrs Lloyd Dell step daughter Mrs Thurlow Sanford brothers George and Walter Schneider sisters Mrs Henry Heimerdinger and Mrs George Koch. Funeral was conducted by Rev Alvin Siemsen at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lockwood Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
