Saline firemen won a pay raise at Monday’s City Council meeting after council member E D Wolfin urged a study of comparable towns. The new rates set pay at 1 per one monthly meeting and 1 for the first hour on duty with increases for each additional hour. townships linked to Saline also see higher service charges.
The Farm Council schedules a August 17 chicken barbecue at the Farm Council property on Saline Ann Arbor Rd Dexter. After a near disaster two years ago the group promises no line waits with four to six serving lines and aims to serve 5000 dinners to benefit Farm Council grounds and buildings.
City Clerk Roy Muir says the State Highway Dept may raise Michigan Ave by six to nine inches to fix a three curb dropoff, with West Michigan Ave between Ann Arbor and the alley rebuilt at state expense. Sidewalks may be replaced and charged to property owners. Federal sewer funds may offset costs for a new Saline Area High School. Roesch says a $42 thousand grant is possible, with $20 thousand more reasonable. Mayor Leutheuser announced Detroit News coverage Friday night to profile Saline, inviting city officials to assist.
Mrs. Annie Sawicki of 10065 Austin Road Bridgewater township died after a varicose vein in her right leg ruptured. The 61 year old woman bled to death at home Monday after an incidental bump to her leg. Funeral services set for 2 p m Thursday at Proctor Funeral Home Clinton with burial in Riverside cemetery. She was born March 15 1897 in Budzanow Austria and came to this country in 1914. Survived by husband Dmytro and three children Mary Coltie John and Steven.
The Saline Observer states it will not publish any correspondence without the author’s signature. Signatures may be withheld at the author’s request but must be on file in the office.

A 7-year-old Port Huron Roller steam tractor on the Alber farm at 4400 Weber Dr Saline is kept as a hobby by William Detwiler. Fireman Carl Hertler notes it uses 700 pounds of coal per day and can thresh about 1000 bushels daily if run continuously.
