Henry Lenthauser proclaims April 28 to May 1 as Clean up-Vix-up-Paint-up Week urging residents to curb rubbish for city improvement. On May 1 city trucks will collect at curbs in cans or boxes.

Saline Elementary Carnival Nets $772 Profit

The Saline Elementary School Room Mothers sponsored a carnival at the school on April 18 attended by a capacity crowd. After expenses, Principal Mrs. Barclay reports a $772 profit. Students and parents aided booths and a student talent show highlighted the evening.

Boy Scouts Camp Out Weekend Near Saline Valley Farms

Twenty six members of Troop 46 Boy Scouts of America camped at Saline Valley Farms with Scoutmaster Mike Strait and assistant Bob Merchant. They set up tents, formed four patrols, and planned meals, in a warm up for the Spring Camporee at Bruin Lake May 16 to 18 with about 14 thousand scouts expected from Lenawee, Livingston and Washtenaw counties.

Council Rejects All Sewer Bids

Saline City Council rejected all bids on the Sanitary Sewer project at their regular meeting last Monday evening. The specifications were revamped since April 4 and new bids will be opened Friday night, April 25, at City Hall.

Seventy six Saline High students submitted essays on Citizenship An Honored Privilege judged by five American Legion Auxiliary members. Chicago Club Girls Plan Weekend in Windy City

Twenty four Sa line High School Chicago Club members depart Ann Arbor at 8 15 on Wednesday from the Michigan Central Depot for a four day trip to Chicago. They stay at the Conrad Hilton Hotel visit the Ice Review at the Boulevard Room and see My Fair Lady at the theatre plus stops at the Merchandise Mart Museum of Science and Industry Marshall Field Sears Roebuck Swift Packing House and a church service before returning Sunday. Each girl pays about 50 dollars with half earned by the group.

Accident Sunday on Milan Road injures one car

Saline police responded to a single vehicle crash on Milan Mooreville Road Sunday at 1 45 AM. Ray Tanabe was driving when the car ran off the road and rolled after he applied the brakes near the intersection. Vehicle damage was about 900 dollars.

The Saline City Council approved three permits at the regular meeting last Monday evening. Owen Hoeft 201 E Henry modeled kitchen costing 1200 dollars. Saline Area Gets Dial Telephone Service Upgrade

Saline moves to dial telephones at an estimated total cost over 450000 with Hazel prefix. The project, led by General Telephone Co and Michigan Bell, aims for completion by August and will have no local operators with toll calls routed through an Ann Arbor center. About 1700 telephones are expected in service after conversion.

Saline High School students hosted sixty two students and six adults from Three Oaks Michigan on Friday. After meals with their Saline hosts the visitors traveled to Ann Arbor for the District Music Festival, following a five hour bus ride.

Leuthauser to Serve as Mayor for a Day in Benzonia

A report from the Observer says Mayor Henry Leuthauser will swap cities with Benzonia Mayor Robert Bennett for a day on May 5. Benzonia, in Bennzie County near Crystal Lake, is praised by the county Public Relations Committee as a vacationer’s delight.

Mrs Chester Walters Dies Suddenly at University Hospital

Mrs. Chester Walters of Willow Village died Monday evening at University Hospital. Her husband is a graduate pharmacist and a senior in the School of Dentistry. he has worked part time at Giltrow Pharmacy in Saline. Funeral arrangements have not been set.
