At a Thursday meeting the Park and Recreation Commission announced Mark De Lay as assistant director of the summer recreation program. Tom Johnson, former director, remains in a leadership role as the program runs from late June to August 16. De Lay will teach baseball and Johnson will supervise swimming. Babe Ruth teams and prior activities will continue with new features added.

Hoover Ball and Bearing Company announces Robert W. Ebey as Manager of Ball Sales, effective from January 1959. Ebey joined as Inside Sales Supervisor in January 1957, succeeding John B. Fyfe who retires January 1 1959 after over thirty years with the firm. Hoover highlights its global production of precision balls in chrome steel brass bronze stainless steel and other alloys.
Robert Bennett a 29 year old funeral director from Benzonia Michigan has been chosen as exchange mayor for Saline. A three member Saline Chamber of Commerce committee will host him with events including a banquet and a guest speaker on May 5 with further details to come.
The Kiwanis Club of Saline met Monday at Martys restaurant with President Bob Harrison in charge. Five new members were inducted, including Russell Bump Richards by C Dildine. A representative from Paul Revere Insurance of Worcester, Mass spoke on insurance options.
