Flood waters threaten dam and bridge on US-112 near Saline
Rampaging floods from a 75 square mile area north of Saline overwhelmed the Ford dam over the weekend. A wood and sandbag cofferdam held back the torrent as workers from Milan and local residents, aided by state police, prevented a breach that could have collapsed the dyke and destroyed the bridge on US-112. Towns flooded, mills and roads damaged, and power intermittently cut as the river crest reached new heights. volunteers supplied hot meals to the dam crew while local industry assisted with materials to shore the dyke and reestablish routes.
