Farmers Group Meetings Schedule Kitchen and Barn Sessions

Arrangements are made for farm and barn meetings to help producers and families. Leaders from Osler to Quiman organize sessions across townships on April 9 with agricultural and home economics staff guiding both field and kitchen discussions. John Lawrence Quinn, longtime Saline resident and businessman, died April 3 in Ypsilanti hospital. funeral services were held April 6 at Lockwood funeral home. Burial in Oakwood cemetery placed in Flint area Trinity church rites. Survives wife Cora M and several siblings.

Saline Rotary heard Rotarian Mark Sugden of Adrian, formerly of Saline, describe bombs used in the present war and discuss battle trends in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The High School Glee Club performed under Miss Gertrude Fredrick, with Albion College secretary Les Harger as a guest of Hubert A. Bearss.

All Girls In Local Contest Winners Named

In Saline district speaking contests the four declamation winners Marian Feldkamp Ethel Spike Beatrice Nelson and Della Burkhardt will represent Saline in the April 16 district contest. Declammers were all tenth graders. In oration Beat rice Nelson won with Wake Up America and Della Burkhardt was second with Practice What You Preach. All contestants were from grades ten and eleven and judges were Mrs. C A Curtiss Mrs. Walter MacArthur and Rev. William Bach. The district winner advances to the regional, with prizes of dictionaries from a Detroit paper and wall banners for the winning schools from the University of Michigan Extension Department.
