Saline residents celebrate passage of bond and millage funding for a remodel of the high school adding classrooms and a cafeteria. The piece also notes a late winter snowstorm, local tulip concerns, and blooming African violets including a Blue Boy plant from the Saline Community Fair.
Mrs. Lee Robison was chosen the JCC Wife of the Year at a Monday night JCG meeting. She received a silver tray from the local Junior Chamber of Commerce, with judges Mrs. Lloyd Dell Mrs. George Wood and Kenneth Savery officiating.
Annual meeting to be held at the township hall on Braun Road Monday April 5 at 1 30 p m. Business before the meeting includes township affairs and zoning. Ellsworth Lindsley, Township Supervisor.
City offices will be closed all day Monday April 5 due to a special city election. City Clerk E J Muir notes the temporary shutdown.
Donald Kelley of Allen Park becomes new owner of the Saline Jewelry Store. A Detroit area native with military service in Korea, he plans to keep Green’s high quality standards, redecorate, expand merchandise, and improve service for Saline residents.
Three Saline High students won local declamation honors and advance to the district competition. Donna Mae Wahl, Sally Cook, and Sharon Larson will wear the Michigan Forensic Association silver keys.

Doris Zahn of Macon Road Saline had the car door torn off when a truck backed into the Saline Mercantile lot last Saturday noon. Paul Alber of Arkona Road drove the truck. A separate rain storm incident involved Carl Cobb of Saline and Geo Seeger of Mishawaka Indiana as a truck and car sideswiped near Michigan Avenue and Lewis Street causing sidewalk damage.
Forty three Saline Area teachers joined Washtenaw county colleagues at Edmonson Junior High Willow Run for a county institute. Speakers included Colonel Jack Major of Paducah and Dr A J Phillips M E A secretary who discussed legislation affecting schools and the Conlin bill on the November ballot. Local leaders and planning members from Willow Run and surrounding districts organized sectional meetings on kindergarten through senior high programs and student activities.
Two hour parking is now in force on Ann Arbor Street from McKay Street to Russell Street. The rule runs daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Ten minute parking signs in front of the school will be strictly enforced.

A notice urges Saline voters to participate in a special City Hall election on April 5 to approve charter amendments. Proposals cover rotating Council terms, tax collection fees at 1 percent, and special assessment bonds for street projects to allow five year payments at 6 percent.

Hammond School on Jordan Road hosted a brief program by students followed by a box social. Don Mueller gave an illustrated talk on Korea. Proceeds from the event totaled 38.70.
Mr and Mrs Art Armbruster spent the weekend with their son Lloyd Armbruster and family in Rochester New York. They traveled through heavy snow and reached home Monday evening. Rochester reported up to 17 inches of snow by Tuesday morning.
The community shares birthday greetings for Carolyn Eadie Josephine Eadie and Harry Anderson Sr born in early April along with Mrs. Margaret Jordan Dorothy Hutzel Lena Burkhart and Luetta Winkle whose birthdays fall on April 1 2 3 3 3 5 and 8 respectively in this local notice.
Fred Yoakam becomes the Kroger Store manager in Saline, arriving February 18 to replace Claude Englehart who served six and a half years. Yoakam has worked for Kroger four and a half years, with three years as manager at Brighton, Dexter, Walled Lake, and Saline. He and his wife have two daughters and plan to move to Saline this summer after living in Ann Arbor.
Circle I under Mrs Silas Nord will meet at Mrs John Dicks Jr home 214 West Michigan with Mrs John Dicks Sr and Mrs Allyn Phelps assisting. Circle NT meets in the church parlors with Miss Fannie Friis and Mrs M A Shull as hostesses as Mrs Walter Jacobs is absent. Both groups study Spanish speaking Americans and focus devotions on the Book of Acts.

Kenneth Guenther and Gene Austin were chosen to represent Michigan in the National FFA Chorus at the National Convention in Kansas City Missouri this fall. Arnold Girbach named first alternate. It marked the first year two chorus members were selected from one chapter.
Arnold Girbach won a silver award in the Future Farmers of America State Public Speaking Contest at the 25th Annual FFA Convention at Michigan State College. He previously took first in district and regional contests. His speech was titled Do We Need Farm Price Supports.
Saline Area School voters approve a bond issue 483 yes to 374 no with 21 voids and a millage vote 515 yes to 387 no with 18 voids. A 20 room school will be built on a 12 acre site in the southeast city. Walter Anicka and associates are the architects.
Saline high school seniors present a three act comedy Books and Crooks by Mitzman and Dalzell on April 8 and 9. Howard Hill announces director Mildred Haswell and a three week rehearsal. The plot centers on a bank robbery that ends with humor as a school setting hosts the caper with students in key roles and tickets available at the gym door.
Saline F F A reports two members awarded the State Farmer degree at Michigan State College during the 25th Annual State Convention. Bob Groeb and Tom Richards are recognized for supervised farming efforts, leadership, scholarship, and overall achievement among 200 state recipients from a 10 500 member federation.
The Wm. B. Lutz Unit 322 of the Saline American Legion Auxiliary met March 23 with 24 members at the Legion Home. Gwenyth Armbruster presided as reports were read, new member Mrs. Silas Nord introduced, and 65 large plus 15 small pads were made for invalids. The group discussed hospital training, Red Cross drive, and a resignation from Girl Scout leader Verona Little.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Hosmer attended the funeral of Mr Hosmers nephew in Flint on Friday.
