Additional Plant at St Johns to Aid Shipbuilding
The Grant Smith Guthrie McDougal Co plans an extra plant at St Johns to install machinery in vessels built for Portland shipyards. Eight future hulls from Aberdeen yard will be towed for outfitting, and twelve steamers here, including two already under construction, will receive machinery. Eric Hauser announced the departure and noted first hull progress at Aberdeen. Machinery work will be done by builders under various contracts, with some government furnished machinery. The new plant will employ many skilled workers on Bradford Street between Peninsula Lee and the Woolen.
