Banquet of St Johns Club Hosts City Officials

The St Johns Commercial Club held a Monday evening banquet for city officials, with Mrs. Miller in charge of service and music by Mrs. Weinberger and local players. Guests included town leaders and a turnout of 36 banqueters. Speakers urged improvements from Willamette boulevard to river dredging, fire equipment upgrades, and a public playground, while praising civic cooperation and plans for county highway work.

City weeds to be cut. costs assessed on property

Important Notice from St Johns dated May 20 1913 states that from June 5 1918 all weeds brush or thistles growing on streets will be cut by the City and the cost assessed against the property as provided by ordinance No 186. Chief of Police C W Allen signs the notice urging civic action.

City Council Hears Legal Aid Plan And Street Improvements

The council debated securing further legal counsel, considering attorney Stroud at 200 dollars and potential fees if the city prevailed. A committee reported progress, while other items included purchasing the Smith block for 1650 dollars, funding street and sidewalk works, appointing viewers for condemnation, and directing removal of an unsightly Tufts building portion.
