City Takes Over Historic Pontalba Bridge
New Orleans city took control of the historic Pontalba Buildings, built in 1660 by the Baroness Pontalba, transferring ownership to the city via the Upper Pontalba Buildings Museum Association. The city will maintain the property with existing mortgages, using estimated annual rental revenue around $20,000 to retire debt over about 18 years. When lower-floor rooms open, a cultural museum will be created showcasing regimes, Civil War era fixtures, governors’ rooms, and an art gallery honoring citizens who served Louisiana beyond politics.
