Death claims local woman this morning
Funeral plans are set for Mrs. I. T. Johnson age 67 who died at her home 905 North Yrenton Street Friday morning. Services will be at 3 PM Saturday at the family residence with Rev J D Cat you and Rev J M Michiel officiating. Mrs Johnson had lived in Ruston for 12 years after moving from Arcadia and is survived by her husband, five sons and thirteen grandchildren. Burial follows in Cook's Chapel Cemetery under direction of B F McLure and Company.

Legion Awards to Nobles Pupils at Boston High School
The American Legion medals were awarded to Miss Lorene Richard Wayne Fallon of Nobles community for highest averages in the parish high schools. The two students were chosen by a committee of faculty and senior members, voting privately. medals presented by Commander Lo Fox. Principal Townsend cited the selection process as commendable for its emphasis on honor, courage, scholarship, leadership and service. Similar awards were given across parish high schools last week. Simsboro school bond passes by strong margin
Simsboro voters approved a bond issue for school improvements at a meeting this morning. Sixty six ballots valued at 04 340 favored the measure while 10 ballots valued at 25 190 opposed it. The board will advertise the bonds and offer them for sale after sixty days. The improvements include a third unit at the south side facing the Dixie Overland highway and a redesigned main entrance. All board members attended the session chaired by H L Campbell.

Summer School Opens in Austin for High Schoolers
Summer school for high school students will be held in Austin this year with classes starting Monday. Three regular faculty will teach, classes run six days weekly, and a standard one and a half unit credit may be earned per subject. Funeral services for Mrs J B Finley 77 wife of a former Lincoln Parish sheriff who died Friday afternoon at a Shreveport hospital will be held Sunday at 2 PM from Mrs W O Blanley's home with Rev H M Johnson presiding. She lived in Ruston since marriage at 210 South Trenton Street. She cared for foster children including Mrs J M Hoss of Hosston. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery will follow under B F E MeBure and Company. No immediate relatives survive.

Louisiana, the nation’s top strawberry producer, ships more fruit to northern markets this year than ever before. B B Jones, secretary of the Agricultural Bureau of the New Orleans Association of Commerce, says more cars remain to be shipped and prices are uncertain. Last season the Hammond area shipped 2,288 cars valued at $8,000,000 with thousands of barrels of cold piey sending crop value to $6,000,000. this year 2,602 cars have been shipped, nearly matching the 1936 total, with at least 1,000 more cars to come.

Sermon Sunday Opens Week's Activities at Local College

Spectacle Man Arrested For Practicing Without License
W B Willipins, said to be from Horatio Arkansas, was arrested on a charge of practicing optometry without a license. He pleaded guilty and was fined 26 dollars plus costs by Judge BL Walker in the local district court. Reports say he sold glasses at various places. he admitted glasses cost him ten cents to make but sold for 50 dollars per pair. A separate report from Arthur Washington, a Ward Five farmer, describes a bank loan ploy by two black individuals who took 83 dollars from him with promises of a larger payoff, then vanished. Sheriff Thigpen notes Monroa parish reports of four similar actors operating in that area, now being pursued by authorities.
