Gasoline tax surge contrasts with falling fuel price
A survey across fifty cities shows average gas price excluding tax fell over ten years from 28.25 cents to 14.46 cents per gallon while the tax rate rose dramatically from 0.0014 to 3.86 cents. The study notes the tax hike adds 13 to 42 percent to fuel costs, justified by road funding though lawmakers remain active.
Tax receipts set new high from gasoline sales
States collected 522,110,961 from the gasoline tax in 1930, a new high record, despite less fuel used than in 1929. The figure implies about 1,400,000 dollars daily in revenue, not including taxes from counties and municipalities.
