PJ Sets Plans To Build Own Roads

Lincoln parish police jury decided to spend between $30,000 and $35,000 to purchase equipment for blacktop road construction and maintenance at their regular meeting Tuesday morning. Parish manager Eddie Fang estimated the cost and the jury planned to advertise for bids on April 28. A tentative list includes an asphalt distributor, storage tank, rollers, pulling equipment, a portable water tank, and gravel spreaders. Officials argued construction could save money but maintenance must be funded, noting the state has aided about 30 miles of road yearly for the past three years. Evans said 85 miles of paved parish roads are worth over a million dollars, with maintenance costing about three percent of that value. The plan also envisions a permanent asphalt storage bank at Parish Prison Road camp to support maintenance and paving across the parish.
